would this look weird?

would it look weird if i write about a certain extracurricular activity in my college essay but i dont list it on common app? Because common app has a limit of 10

Yes, it’s weird.

I question your prioritization of the 10 you’ve chosen to put on your common app. They should be your list in priority of how you see their importance to you in your life – omit the fluff – I highly doubt the nos. 7-10 of anyone on this planet mean a single thing to any college.

Yes, very strange. Why would you write about something that is that important to you, and then not list it on your Top 10??? Remember, you can always consolidate some ECs into one and then write “See addt’l info” in the comments line and then give greater details in the “Addt’l Info” section of the Common App.

well i have a lot of ecs that i start and stop just to experience them and i think one of those experiences had a profound impact on me and i wanted to write about it

Obviously, lots of people write an essay about a life experience that is not an extracurricular activity. That’s fine for lots of general prompts for the common app or “free choice” essays. So, it sounds like this activity was a brief exposure, and not a significant EC experience. Go ahead and write about it if you have a good lesson learned from it.
But if the prompt says, “tell us about an EC that meant the most to you” this would not be appropriate.

but there is a difference. If i wrote about how eating an apple changed my life, that is obviously not an EC and no alarms will be raised. If i wrote about how i almost got robbed while working at a grocery store changed my perspective on things but i dont include that in my EC, will that be suspicious?
