Extracurriculars

does BU heavily look at extracurriculars and common app essay? also do they weight the senior mid-year report as heavily as other application materials?

All schools that use holistic review look heavily at ECs and Essays. That being said, some schools like Northeastern tend to weigh stats more. BU is competitive though, so they probably look at everything equally. Also, most schools use the mid-year report to ensure that seniors aren’t slacking off because they are in their last year. It won’t be used as much as the essay or the full application, but some schools might reject an applicant with a 36 ACT score because they suddenly have Ds in their senior mid-year report.

@izrk02

You are a high school senior, right? Where are you getting all of your information? Some of it is only partially accurate.

@thumper1 It’s called the common data set. All colleges have to fill it out. BU has the essay and ECs listed as “important” along with pretty much everything else. It’s all public info.

I’m very familiar with the common data set…but most high school seniors wouldn’t be pursuing that.

Also, one of my kids is a BU grad, and while they list ECs and essay as “important” the first brush will be GPA and standardized test scores…then the AOs look at the other data.
