Extraordinary Family Obligations

In one of my college apps, it says, "Serve as a primary caregiver for family member(s)?"

My grandmother, whom I live with has Alzheimer's and my mother serves as her primary caregiver. She needs to be accompanied at all times and I am also required help take care of her and this has obviously influenced aspects of my life but not to the point where I have to miss school or anything like that.

So would my response to this question on my college app be yes or no?

No. But if your mom were applying to college, her answer would be Yes.

no to your specific question. However, if you can honestly say that your need to help care for your GM reduced your participation in after school activities (I have seen cases like these, supported in letters), this is important information for admissions officers/faculty readers. The most effective way to introduce this situation, if it applies, is through your letters of rec. It not only avoids the whoa is me tone to essays, but it is in your favor to have a GC or teacher corroborate the story.
