Throughout this summer I have gone through Direct Hits volume 1 and 2, and as opposed to improving my score in the vocabulary section, it declined drastically. If you were to quiz me on the vocab i learned, i probably know most of them, but I rarely see them coming up in the tests, even though Direct Hits is known for having the most hit words.

Barron’s 3500 list is very comprehensive, but I’m not sure it’s realistic to learn all of those words in a short amount of time. Nor is it an efficient use of study time. You would be better off learning 200 to 300 repeat offenders (and there are free lists online that are as good if not better than DH) and learning how to eliminate answer choices. I rarely miss a SC question and I never know all of the words. I have just learned how to decode vocabulary, eliminate trick answers, and see patterns among correct answers.

the actual test itself contains about what like 20 questions x 5 words each = 100 vocab words max – what’s worked for me is simply memorizing all the 3500-4000 words. just knonwng those words helped me boost my score from a 600 to 720

i tried cramming those guys from Barron’s first – that didn’t work too well I signed up for this site called myvocabapp.com and it was much more bearable to do about 50-100 / day
