extremely confused junior regarding subject tests for college

hi,

I am a junior in high school and I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to be doing for testing requirements!
(just kidding, I did take the SAT recently)

I honestly had no clue that I needed to take 3 SAT Subject Tests for college (after the June SAT deadline, lol). I thought they were optional…

Im planning to retake the SAT in October because my score was pretty mediocre, and I was thinking of taking the subject tests in November. It sounds good because I would have the whole summer to prep, but

(a) if I am an early decision applicant, its close
(b) if I do not do well, I cannot retake it o_o"

I am currently taking AP Lang, AP Chemistry, USH, and regular pre calculus right now. the logical choices for my subject tests would be chem, math iic, and ush, but I have a less than a month to study for those three exams,

for math iic, my school’s curriculum doesn’t finish the stuff covered on the exam (I have a feeling that I will be so confused, and that will cost me points). I am also very apprehensive about taking the chemistry test because I suck at chem (seriously- like a low C/almost D).

if I don’t apply ED, I think I have until December, but I really want to apply ED …

any thoughts?

-very lost junior

Most colleges these days only require two SAT subject tests, so definitely check the requirements for the colleges you’re applying to.

I think Georgetown is the only school that still requires 3 subject tests and even the list of schools requiring two is shrinking. Here is a link to a list prepared by a California based test prep company of most of the schools that require or recommend subject tests. http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/subject-test-requirements-and-recommendations/ Also note that many schools will accept the ACT plus writing in lieu of subject tests so you might consider taking the ACT in September.

WOAH WAIT JUNE IS THE DEADLINE FOR ED SUBJECT TESTS?!?!?!?

Depends on the ED deadline at your school. After June, the next subject tests will be mid- October. Those scores may not be back in time for ED application deadlines. You can still register for the June tests via late registration.

Assuming from your Avatar you are applying ED to Cornell and other posts that you are applying to Humsn Ecology, then it does not appear you need any subject tests for ED.

@gettingschooled I know you don’t need them but I will for the other schools I’m applying to.

Most colleges don’t require ANY subject tests. The only college I know of that “recommends” three is GTown. Other highly competitive schools MAY require two. Check the web sites.

@Gatortristan You asked about ED. Where are you planning to apply ED?

@gettingschooled Cornell Human Ec. ED but I’m saying if I don’t get in than I need them for every where else (Gtown,Brown,Penn,UVA,etc)

For almost all ED or EA programs, you can take tests as late as the Oct test date and for many even Nov.

Majority of colleges do not use subject tests to determine admission and ignore them if sent, and thus whether you need them depends on college (for list of colleges that require, recommend or consider subject tests see the Compass site mentioned above). Colleges that require them require two not three. Those that recommend them but do not require them recommend two except Georgtown which recommends three, except that some want three from home schooled students.
