Hi,

I am applying ED to an Ivy league school and am stressing out big time over my CommonApp essay. I have a completed draft that I think is very good, but I feel I can do better with a different topic. I also feel like my current draft doesn't reveal enough about me other than 1 aspect of my personality.

Is it too late to start a new common app personal statement? Or should I stick with my current one? I'm so depressed/stressed bc of this.

Thanks.

I would write one over the course of the next week. Have someone read both essays, and submit the one you feel is best.

^^ yeah this is common and a good practice. You might even outline 3 or 4. Make sure your final draft is polished and has good mechanics.

You seem to understand the goal of revealing the strengths colleges look for. Now try pretending you are writing this as a letter to an older adult friend. Sometimes, when nerves get in the way, this exercise lets your personality come through and nicely accomplishes all the “show, not tell.” Worth a try.

thanks @looking forward! Please check your private messages if you would!
