I'd like to start a "tracking thread" of when anyone get's an Appointment (not just a nomination) AND was in need of an eye (or other) DODMERB DQ waiver. Please ID also if you had an LOA that helped grease the waiver machine gears....

Son Mike has his Nom(s), etc. but is awaiting the eye waiver/appointment process to kick-in. We'd like to hear when these waivers start being granted, etc.

So if you have gotten an Appointment and an eye waiver to go with it (i.e. correctable to 20/20 from current poor status) then please chime in here.

Hey DKnight! Yes, my daughter (glitterhairdye on here) recieved her LOA from Dean of Admissions on Saturday and her Vision Waiver from DODMEB on Monday. She called the academy to ask if they had recieved the Vision Waiver and the status of her appointment packet. They told her that they had recieved the Vision Waiver from DodMerb for her and that it was just a matter of processing the paperwork and she should have the official appt with a few weeks. Hope that helps!

That's good news. What I'm looking for, however, are those candidates that did not have the assistance of a LOA to get them over the waiver hump. I.e. to see when the middle-of-the-road nom-holding applicants start getting appointment/waiver combos. I'm assuming that they'll be toward the end of the appointment season, but I guess we'll all find out in good time! :)

My daughter received an appointment with an eye waiver in Mid-December 2006. She received her appointment with a Congressional Nomination. She did not get a LOA, Scholastically qualified letter or any notice prior to the Congressman's office calling that she had received the appointment.
Wishing you the best of luck! Hope to see all on June 27th! We'll be there!!

i got my scholastically q'ed letter mid january, LOA yesterday (feb 3rd), just waiting on a waiver for the vision.
i'll let you all know what happens..hopefully i'll hear something soon

Hey,
I currently have an appointment to USAFA and would have an appointment to West Point if I have a nomination to go there.

when I went to my Candidate visitation weekend, i talked to one of the admission officer, the only thing he said about my chances of appointment is my file looks pretty good and it's above average
Since i wear glasses, I'll need an eye waiver, so about what time do you guys think I will get my appointment?
I do want an appointment really badly

Son was on a vision waiver -- he was issued a LOA on Dec 6th, and got a congressional nom a couple of days later (already had a Presidential). The formal appointment came on Jan 19th.

Funny thing is that he never got an official letter stating that the vision waiver was granted, the appointment packet just showed up, and it took the DoDmerb site until the end of January to reflect that the vision waiver was granted.

I have been told by the BGO's that the Supe himself reviews all vision waivers so I expect that they are issued on an irregular schedule.

Does anyone know when does the bulk of the people with glasses received their appointment?
also, if you do get an appointment, is there anyway to find out about it online?

No rank policy. But for purpose of application, I think they calculated top 10-25 percent. Not sure. School is relatively small though. 130 or so in our class.
Lots of IB classes. This year I have 6. Last year I had 8.
ACT Math: 31 English: 26/27? I don't remember.
SAT was horrible. All subscores were in the 500's. I didn't even break 600 on any of the sections.

Appointment also to USAFA.
Two nominations for USNA. Senator and Congressman.
One nomination for USAFA. Congressman.

I'm missing stuff. Can't quite remember. I'm pretty athletic and in shape. Though, I'm pretty short. 5'5" hits the mark.

I look good on paper, but truthfully I don't think I'm great or anything. Just that, if you work hard enough, and want the Academy enough, you'll get it. Just keep truckin'.

Wow - so there's hope for glasses wearing sub 600 SAT applicants out there, huh? Congrats. :)

I think there are a number of candidates in your boat, i.e. non LOA, Nom'd but awaiting eye waivers out there. Glad to hear some of the appointments for that "level" are coming out. How did you hear - MOC call you?

Did any of you guys get an email from your Regional Director asking for your 1st semester grades. I sent them in and all, but I was wondering if that was a good sign meaning that they want to see more of me or is that just a requirement. I have my nomination and all that good stuff, but this waiting period is killing me. I really want to hear something soon.

It could mean that they need more information to determine if you are scholatically qualified to compete, and have put off making a decision on your case until they have your latest grades.
