Still out here waiting for the Appointment...

Anyone want to garner a guess at what percentage of Appointments have not yet been offered at this late point? 25%, 10%, or only 2%?

I've seen posts relating "that if you haven't heard by April 1st" things are pretty bleak (but not 100%) so I guess we'll keep stalking the mailman and/or our MOC secretary till then. Any words of encouragement (or suggestions on what to do, check on, etc) are welcome during this painful wait for the fat envelope.

Dknightfam
BTW - son has Nom'd / 3Q status pending the typical "correctable to 20/20" eye waiver / but no LOA

Same boat as you, still waiting!! Wear glasses, so yes waiting for that waiver also, otherwise everything else is up to speed. Some people get a phone call, or letter from nomination source before appointment comes in mail. As of yet, my phone call has not come to home or school. Hard to not think about it 24/7!!!

I was just notified on the 17th. My MOC said he'd have a secretary call me, but she never did- they wrote a letter. So who knows, your letter may be in the mail :)

You're not in trouble until June 27th...or whenever that day is.

I didn't hear until April 18th...and that was only because I called Admissions. I didn't get the folder until the 21st.

Keep on truckin'....by the end of this, everyone realizes that Tom Petty was right about everything.

I'm in the same exact situation as your son, congressional nom and acad. qualified with the annoying 'vision waiver' needed.

However another person similiar to us (vision waiver) just recieved his appointment last week, while most of the others I have heard of (no vision waiver) recieved theirs a while ago. Who knows, we may yet get lucky, no other way to say it, gave up long ago trying to calculate the chances.

Thinking LOTS of positive thoughts for all of you. Hoping you hear very soon! And BTW- you may not get a heads up from your nominating source. The experience our son had, was the Appointments landed in the mail & then a letter of Congratulations! from our MOC followed a week or so later. No phone call, e.mail or smoke signals letting him know the Appointments were on their way. Each office runs differently. IOW, don't think it a bad sign if your MOC office hasn't been in touch.

Keep smiling, good things will happen :)

My son got his appointment on April 15-the supposed last day for notification and then a week after his I-Day, nine more people were accepted in. You just never know. Hang tight!!!

Thanks - we're hanging in there, but have two "backup" offers in the wings that have May 1 deadlines (AF / NROTC) so the pressure's on a bit - won't be able to wait till I-Day unless he rolls the dice....

I have heard that a large percentage of the total appointments offered goes out on the first, possibly even more than 25%. Navy loves to take their sweet time with everything.

Hey we are in the same BOAT!! Son has 3 nominations, qualified scholastically and medically---but no package...His grandfather contacted MOC yesterday and spoke to a staffer--She was familiar w/ my son's name and spoke highly of him--said we always want people like him who intend to make Navy a career...No news yet, however--not bad or good--NOTHING! But she told him that he should know something by the end of the month--March--or first of April--So we are holding our breath and saying lots of prayers as well--Good Luck to everyone!!

At this point, we are going by "no news is good news"--but who knows??!!

No news is def good news. They can't call you on the phone for good news but can call you for bad news. Good news comes from the mail man or your congressional office which is usually notified before you are. They just don't want to ruin the surprise.

Good luck all! Son is still waiting as well. He's 3Q w/ no vision or medical waivers needed. He finished his app last August.

I'm Scholastic, physically and medically (besides my eyes). Two nominations.
You guys not having your appointments is making me feel better, I hope I make you guys feel better.

To all still waiting:

BTBT: twice.
Hang in.
Go shopping. Go run. Go get ice cream.
Ignore the mailbox for the next few days...the dye is cast, and what will be will be.
Believe it or not, as hard as the waiting is, it's the easy part!

I'm still waiting too. My record actually wasnt looked at until just recently because I was supposed to talk to a new Blue and Gold Officer because my BGO is my dad, and someone thought it would be a good idea to get another interview with someone else. The trouble is they didnt tell me until about two weeks ago. So, I went and interviewed and was told they will make the decision soon, and I'm still waiting. This waiting is soooo tough, but I'd definitely prefer waiting to already having a rejection letter!

Question for all you guys/girls waiting, have you heard of anyone getting rejection letters ? Does rejection letters come interminent during the months like appointments do? I agree the waiting is tough, but I'll wait also if it means a final appointment!!!!

I guess I too am trying desperately to figure out the system in which they notify everyone, either good or bad news.

Yes, USNA has been sending rejection letters. My son's friend got one in early March. I don't know why although he did need a vision waiver. Grades ok...state level swimmer AA league. Maybe they're deep in swimmers.

To all of you who are still waiting for a letter of appointment or have been rejected, here is an interesting story that should give you some encouragement:

I didn't find out from the Academy until 1 WEEK from I-Day. All my papers got overnighted to me and I spent the next 2 days frantically trying to get everything in. I had already accepted my NROTC spot at The Ohio State University and even had my football tickets. I was all ready to go. Then, one morning, around 8, the phone rang, and it was some admissions officer asking me if I still wanted to come to the Naval Academy. All of this was after I got 2 rejection letters and got denials from the Dean of Admissions, Superintendant, and the Commandant. I wrote numerous letters to any and all who could reverse the decision; nobody could help me. Then wouldn't you know, I get a call in the morning asking if I STILL wanted to come.

DO NOT GIVE UP UNTIL I DAY. NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER. If it is what you really want, write letters, call admissions; do not let them go one day without hearing your name. My classmates and I are now 56 days from Herndon, and I personally can't wait to climb it as it will villify what I have been trying to do for as long as I can remember.

PS- I needed an eye waiver and was not triple qualed or anything...all that stuff was taken care of in that one phone call in the morning.

Thanks so much for that!! I will make sure my son reads your post and follows it to the "T"! (if need be...)You are definitely the kind of person the Navy NEEDS! Your determination is absolutlely inspiring !!
Just 56 more days for you to go!! So glad to know someone like you will be around IF my son get there!!! Good Luck and Congratulations!!! Llike you said--NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up!!!
