F in Non-required Math - Will UC Rescind?

Hi! I was wondering if UCs would rescind an admission for failing a non-required course to transfer. This past Winter Quarter I failed the last calculus class for the math series but I already fulfilled the math requirement for biology major with the first two calc classes of the series and statistics. I wanted to retake the class for Spring quarter but I already maxed out my units. Will this greatly hinder my admissions or is the the drop in GPA that will really hinder me more than the failing grade? Also, if I’m not able to retake it (Spring or Summer Quarter) and transfer, could I just request an academic renewal of just that class? or does the whole quarter get removed of grades? Thank you so much!

It’s a UC-transferable course? I can’t say what they will do but my inclination is you will not get in.

@Ohm888 it’s a UC transferrable math course

I have another question so if I retake the course this spring and pass to replace the grade, do I still have to inform the school?

You must info the school if you make any change in your academic schedule.

That class will count against your GPA. I don’t think the retake in the Spring will help you much since decisions are made prior to the semester/quarter ending.

Sometimes I wonder how dedicated people are in their quest to transfer. :expressionless:

You got an F. Basically an automatic rejection. You’re retaking. LET THEM KNOW.

Yeah-- you’re best bet is to see what they say, and plan on maybe transferring later. An F is p bad— Usually though if you retake the exact class that grade takes the place. So if you retake it next semester and get a B it will fix your GPA.
