I’m scared through the core right now. I have straight As in all my other classes (basically clutter of APs such as APES, AP Lit, and etc) a C in AP Stat (duh), a hard 55% ‘F’ in Precalc and a 85% B in Calculus.
I got into all the big Florida colleges except UF, and I’m deadly scared of rescission of admission (USF/FSU/UCF). Please give me your honest opinion on whether or not I should expect to have my admission pulled. I have a 1770 SAT and a 4.5 GPA weighted.
I’ve never done this bad in a math class or any class period. I’ve literally never gotten a D let alone an F in any class ever. Will explaining this to admissions do anything? I can’t seem to grasp precalculus, I have a tutor, I study for hours but nothing helps. Homework is just a completion grade and I do every single one, but I just bomb test after test.
Have you met with your precalculus teacher yet? If you are able to do the homework, you should be able to do the tests.
You also need to go meet with your college counselor ASAP to get help managing this issue. Is there any possibility of dropping the class at this point?
I did meet with my teacher she recommended tutoring, but I’m deep in the hole now it’s hard to crawl out from a 55% even if I immediately start getting As in the course. My counselor refused to drop me from the class no matter how much I asked, even when my parents made an appeal to do so she refused.
Do you think I’ll lose my admission offer? If you think I’ll lose my FSU offer do you think I’ll lose my UCF offer even though it’s an easier school?
Can take the CLEP test for precalc? You can test-out of it and that would count as college credit. I know FSU accepts the CLEP for precalc. Maybe you can offer to do this to “prove” that you can overcome your precalc challenge.
The test is not a joke though. You will have to be prepared to sit through a test that covers an entire semester of college-level precalc.
