Hello, I live in California, and I'm attending high school as a senior. I took two years of Mandarin Chinese at my local community college during Freshman and Sophomore year, as colleges accept that as if you took two years of language in high school. By doing that, I could use the period I would've used for a language class for something else. Now, I got Bs in the courses and I'm happy about that, but unfortunately, 6 years ago, I took a beginner guitar course at the CC and failed (I was only 10). Since the payment was only 5 dollars, and I didn't like the course, I just didn't go. I had no idea that that meant "not dropping the course" and it now shows up as an F on the transcript. Is there anything I can do about this?

Explain this issue in the "additional info "section of the common app or your guidance counselor could write about it in your letter. THere’s no reason this should affect you as you were only 10…

Since it happened when you were ten, it’s not going be looked at with nearly as much scrutiny as if it were last year. Just explain the circumstances on the “additional comments” section. I seriously doubt it will hinder you–personally, I would not expect a ten year old to know the ins and outs of withdrawing from CC classes.

Alright, thanks both of you. So the admissions will acknowledge the date and year of the course taken?

Make sure you point out that you were 10 when you took that class. It will not count against you one tiny bit!
