Has anyone received theirs yet??

Just pulled it out of the malbox.

I’m kinda unhappy I didn’t get WUE (apparently only 80 are given this year, up from 40, and I still didn’t get it… mehh) and only was offered a 5,500 loan (and the Plus one but we’re not going to take out a huge loan like that). The letter makes it sound like other scholarships/grants will be offered in the summer. I plan on emailing the Art department to check out art scholarships, but I’m a bit saddened that I wasn’t given anymore help by WWU :

Has anyone else had better luck or maybe more insight on this process?

A couple of weeks ago I received an e-mail notice of my award. I was awarded the Western Achievement Award which is $4,000/yr. Three of my friends from school received the WUE (we are from Oregon). They are all 4.0/2000+ students. I got a physical letter about a week later telling me about the requirements for keeping the scholarship. It also asked me about my intent to enroll, etc. You should expect to see your letter soon

I’m from CA and got the WUE and $2000 Presidential Scholarship!!! GPA 3.8, 32 ACT, 2080 SAT. Also got into Honors. Visited last week and I loved the campus, the energy, and the the Honors people and students made me feel so welcomed. Also, everyone on campus (students, teachers, staff) seemed mellow and happy. The environment and quality of life seem like a dream here. I am highly considering this campus. However, I don’t know too much about WWU. I hope that it isn’t too much of a party school. I’m deciding between UW and UC Davis and majoring in biology with plans to attend graduate school. This place seems to good to be true. Any feedback from Washingtonians about WWU will be appreciated. I am a pretty serious student, but I also value a balanced life. Thank you.

gimmel- WWU is a very good school. Everyone who I’ve talked to who has either gone there or known friends or family who have gone there always has had good things to say about their experience. Lots of in state students go there to become teachers and I believe English is one of the most popular majors, but they are also good in the sciences. If you don’t want a school quite as big as UW 14,000 students vs 40,000 ( with grad) and you like a smaller town–Bellingham vs Seattle, it might be a good fit for you. Good luck deciding!

gimmel, my daughter is looking for a balanced place, as well, so we have been tuned in to what is said about WWU. From what I’ve read, the more studious types live in the North campus area. The Ridge is where the party crowd lives (if I may generalize a bit). I’ve heard references to it being a hippie school, but if that means a certain look, well, I didn’t see it in our visits there. Being in Honors will give you the crowd you seek. Congrats on everything.

My freshman daughter lives in Kappa on the Ridge- nice dorms if you overlook she is on the 4th floor/no elevator, but cathedral ceilings and big windows.
nice view .
I don’t have impression it is a party school- that certainly is not what D is interested in- she has met lots of people to do outdoor activities with however.

Next year she is living off campus- - she is apparently going to live with three young men, two of whom I have met- but didn’t realize they were going to be roommates at the time.

Fairhaven is probably a little more hippieish.
