FA Required???

I know this is going to come of as utterly stupid to some of you, but are there certain forms that you have to send in with financial aid if you're just applying regularly to college?

Three years ago, when my brother applied for college, my family didn't qualify. My brother has a full scholarship and my parents are making more than they were three years ago. I can't see how we would qualify for financial aid now, especially since more people than three years ago would need it. I was under the impression that I could forgo the entire financial aid process, but my parents are convinced that we still have to send in everythign (at least the FAFSA form)

I tried to look up information online, but there aren't really that many people who want guidance on NOT applying for aid. It'd be awesome if you guys could answer quickly because Cornell wants their FA information 1/2 and I need to figure if I need to...

Thanks in advance!

No, it’s not required.

If you want to take an unsubsidized loan, then fill out FAFSA. Also, if a parent losing a job would make you qualify, some schools won’t consider you in future years if you did not apply as a freshmen, so ask your schools.

There are also schools that are much more generous with than they were a few years ago, mostly very top ones. Some give aid to families making close to $200K. So if you’re borderline, run some calculators.

But bottom line is if your family has a high income and significant assets and the world economy would have to collapse before you would get aid–don’t bother. It can help you at many schools not to apply.

Ivies are sometimes more generous with aid then other colleges.

So, depending on your family’s earnings, you might get “some” aid.

Your brother may not have qualified for aid because his school may not be good with aid.
