The program is said to be overbooked this year in terms of admissions but i've also heard that its usually a second choice option for many meaning that places clear up as more people are accepted into their first choice.

Is this true? Any experiences?

My son applied -simply applied online and was denied Faculty of Arts and Sciences (lack of space-didin't matter-first year it was offered, he didn't even know it existed) Was then accepted to both Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science.
I have heard that Faculty of Arts was a second choice for many as many hope to continue to McGill's med school and so want Science.
However, Arts was our son's first choice and I doubt he would have attended McGill if he had only been accepted to Science.
Is it now standard to declare your Faculty at application? It wasn't so when my son applied.

are you referring to arts or to 'arts and science' when you say: I have heard that Faculty of Arts was a second choice for many as many hope to continue to McGill's med school and so want Science.
