I’m turning 24 in may next year so what should I fill in fafsa form since my parents claimed me in tax return 2016 ( i don’t have any income), so should I choose I’m not going to file or already completed and follow my parents income tax return 2016?
Anyone helps meeee pleaseeee
If you will be 24 before the cutoff date for the fafsa 2017-2018, you will answer appropriately for that question on the forms.
You will NOT include your parents information if that is the case.
If you had no income in 2016, and did didn’t work, you can’t put already completed…because that would NOT be accurate. You put “not going to file” and you will need to complete a non-filers statement for the college. Do…contact them.
OP, are you asking about the FAFSA for this academic year (2017-2018), or for next academic year (2018-2019)?
2017-2018
Tax returns from 2016 are not used when completing the 2017-2018 FAFSA; you want to use the 2015 tax return. Also, for the 2017-2018 FAFSA you are not old enough to be considered an independent student based on age. You need to report financial information for your parents.
Oh sorry its is 2018-2019
No, you can list up to 10 schools. A school will award aid. You may need to change something to get California aid. Check with CSUF to make sure you’ve done everything you need to do.
I’m going to fullerton college and will transfer to CSUF next spring so in fafsa 2017-2018 I already choose fullerton college and Calstate fullerton. My question is should I keep it or I have to take out the fullerton college one so that the aid can move to Cal State fullerton?
Thanks
^^ Sorry, posted to wrong thread.
The fact that you will turn 24 in May 2019 still makes no difference. You will remain a dependent student for 2018-2019 FAFSA purposes because you weren’t born before January 1, 1995. Report the information requested for your parents using their 2016 tax return. If you did not file a student tax return in 2016 because you didn’t have any income, then report on FAFSA that you didn’t file/are not going to file.
