FAFSA and Cal Grant

So i turned in my fafsa already and i was recently sent an email saying that i did not receive any cal grant because our income was to high and they told me what my income was... which was higher than what ours really was!

So i went back to my fafsa and checked what i put but i realized that they added the total adjusted gross income and the untaxed income (benefits in our case), but i had included the benefits (untaxed income) in our total adjusted gross income

So I'm thinking that I should make the change and lower the total adjust gross income to what it really is without the benefits... If i do that and submit it again will I be automatically considered again for Cal Grant even though my results had already come out?

And I had more than 10 schools to put in my fafsa so like im supposed to, I had just done 10 in my first submission and then after my SAR (student aid report) had come out i had deleted some of them to replace with new ones. If I change my income to try for cal grant again, will i hve to submit it to both batches of school again in the same process i had before? or does cal grant not matter what schools i put in my fafsa?

And just wondering... I hadn't even turned in my cal grant gpa verification form which they say is required but how come they already tell me my results?

(1) Yes, make the correction - the results also determine what federal grants you might be entitled to!

(2) Yes, you’ll have to do the correction in two batches, just like you did before (but starting with the batch currently listed).

(3) I don’t know if your CalGrant application will be reconsidered automatically. I’d suggest contacting the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) and asking. The contact information is here: [California Student Aid Commission](http://www.csac.ca.gov/doc.asp?ID=543).

(4) It makes sense that they’d tell you immediately that you’re ineligible for Cal Grants based on high income. No point in jumping through the extra hoop of submitting the GPA verification form if a student already knows he/she is ineligible.

Under the circumstances, you should go ahead and submit your GPA verification form so you don’t miss the March 2 deadline.

When you get an answer from the CSAC, it would be helpful if you come back and post it here. Good luck!

Yes, do the changes. For
The Calgrant, I believe your income needs to be below 81,000 or so.

For federal grants an income of $80,000 would NOT be low enough to qualify you for the Pell Grant which is the only federally funded grant. I’m just saying this because I don’t want you to think you automatically will get this by lowering your income on the FAFSA to meet the Calgrant threshold.

^^^ Yes - oops! Thumper is correct . . . if your income is near the Cal Grant cutoff, then you wouldn’t qualify for federal grants.

Aha - just found this:

[Cal Grant Correction Form](http://www.csac.ca.gov/pubs/forms/grnt_frm/g-23_correctionform.pdf)

According to this form, you’d login to the [Web Grants 4 Students](<a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home) website and indicate that you need your Cal Grant eligibility reevaluated. (If you can’t login for some reason, then you’d mail in the form.)

Since the deadline for submissions is only a week away, I’d still contact CSAC directly to find out about the timing of all of this - since it will take a few days for the corrected FAFSA to be processed. But I’d start by making the correction to FAFSA today, if possible.
