Fafsa/calgrants

Can anyone give me the low-down on fafsa and calgrants? What are they for? Does filing out fafsa automatically put you in consideration for scholarships? And how do scholarships work, do you usually find out what scholarships you've won by the time you get accepted?

There is TONS of information out there about these questions. Tons. Do a quick search on google and you will find out.

FAFSA is for financial aid. I think usually if anything, they give you information about what types of loans you can get. Colleges use FAFSA to see how much Fin Aid they can give/you need, i think. So I don't think they help you get/find scholarships -- you usually have to go apply to those yourself.

I don't remember exactly since I never went to the schools that offered me Aid, so someone correct me if i'm wrong. :)

I don't know exactly how Cal Grants work, since I haven't applied for it yet.

You file a FAFSA to get something called an SAR (Student Aid Report). This allows people to determine how much financial need you have. After submitting a GPA verification form and having FAFSA on file, you can get a Cal Grant award. Filing FAFSA itself qualifies you for the federal pell grant.

I think..

does anyone know if you have to reapply for Calgrants if you have already been awarded one this year? Or does it just keep dispersing the same amount every year?
