FAFSA.COM not FAFSA.GOV

I didn't realize I was putting information for the wrong site. However, I didn't submit. I took out my information like my social on there. Now I'm afraid for identify theft...Is the Professional help filing the FAFSA - Federal Student Financial Aid Application legit?

No no no it is not legit! If I am not mistaken, it even asks you for money.

If you can, go back and change all your information now (I don’t know if it matters whether or not you submit it).

EDIT:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/440427-fafsa-com.html

I didn’t get to the part where they ask me for my money though. Do they still have my information…? Should I be okay?

I honestly have no idea, just go back and change all your information to something completely random. Rather be safe than sorry!

I’m pretty sure it’s just a scam rather than an identity theft website, but still, one can never be too careful.

FAFSA stands for Free Application For Student Aid. If you are a commercial site that asks for money you are at the wrong place. The .com site is not the official government site and is not the site you should be using. The correct site is the ed.gov site

[FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)

I didn’t submit, so I wasn’t robbed $80. I’m just wondering will my information be safe though I already deleted the important information and I opted them out.

It looks like a legit business buddy, calm down. A lot of people don’t know how to wade through their income and taxes, so they probably go to these kind of websites for help. Although paying 80 dollars is way to steep for help filling out the FAFSA.

I don’t think the title was misleading at all… IMO.

The company that runs FAFSA.com is legit, so your information is safe. While it makes no sense to most people to pay for services that can be received for free, there are people who prefer to have someone else spend the 15 minutes completing the FREE application for Federal Student Aid. It’s much like taxes. You can get the tax forms and complete them for free yourself or you can pay someone else to complete the tax returns for you.

One word of advice, though, for anyone thinking of deliberately using the pay site (FAFSA.com)…The FAFSA is not difficult to complete and paying someone to submit the form DOES NOT increase your likelihood of getting more financial aid. There are federal limits that restrict the amount of federal aid one can receive each year. Also, as a Financial Aid Counselor, I have seen FAFSA.com submit such screwy FAFSA’s. For those who admitted to me that they submitted their FAFSA through FAFSA.com, I would estimate that nearly 95% had to go through the verification process because information was not completely correctly. Also, I have seen major delays in the receipt of the processed FAFSA…and delays are something you cannot afford when on strict filing deadlines.

Take the time to read through the FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov. Submit the form yourself for FREE. Save your $80.00 for an additional book once you arrive on campus.
