FAFSA for two children!

I have two that will be in college next year. In filling out the FAFSA, do I need to complete two separate forms? If so, is there a way to have any information from one transfer over to the other or do I have to input everything again?

Unfortunately when trying to use the IRS data retrieval tool last year, I got a message that it couldn’t be done. After calling the help number I found out that since my husband had been a victim of identity theft through an IRS breech our tax form was ineligible for data retrieval. I’m hoping that won’t happen again, but won’t be surprised if it does.

Thanks!

Yes, after you fill out the first FAFSA for Student 1, and submit it, it will ask if you have a sibling (since we are pretending it is the student filling out the FAFSA) who needs to complete a FAFSA. It will then import the parent’s information. If you choose to save it to complete later without submitting, it will not ask (or at least didn’t last year).

Sorry, don’t know about the theft/data tool problem.

Since you did FAFSA already for this year, you must have an existing student.

Have your older student log in with their existing FSA ID and choose “renewal”, then 2017/18 FAFSA, some demographic info should be pre-filled.

After filling out FAFSA, signing and submitting, there will be a confirmation page. There will be a link to do a sibling’s FAFSA.

Make sure pop-up blocker is turned off.

Hope the IRS DRT works for you, ours worked like a charm.

Great! Got them both done… pretty painless. DRT did not work for our return, but did for the kids’ returns.
