Fafsa lost

So my dad is filling his our taxes as we speak and hopefully by the end of the night he'll be able to print everything out and I will have the numbers to correctly do the FAFSA.

So when I go to the FAFSA application I check the box that says "Already filled" correct?

And then after I fill in the all the correct numbers and sign with my pin....is that it? I'm I done with the FAFSA forms?

Do I have to do anything else?

Will I get an email or letter or something that tells me my EFC?

How/when would I know my EFC?

Thanks.

Don’t forget there is a parent section and a student section. Your dad will also need a pin and will also need to “sign” the parent section.

Oh, forgot your other questions…I haven’t hit submit with my sons’ FAFSAs yet this year but in years past an e-mail was returned (SAR) in a few days that had the EFC info.
And yes, if your dad mails or hits submit on his taxes, then you check that box “already filed”. On your part if you had a part-time job and are filing for a refund, then you do the same “filed” if you have mailed or hit submit. If you aren’t filing taxes for yourself, then there is a box that says something like “won’t file”…

Alright cool. My dad just printed out our taxes and I’m filling it in right now.

I applied for my pin a few days ago and got it in the email a day or two after.

I thought my dad was going to have to wait that long too, but he checked the box where it says “create my own pin” or something like that and we got it right away…sweet.

Also if I submit my FAFSAs tonight, is that considered early, or late for most students who submit it?

Filing today is not early or late, it’s fine. Every state, and every school, have deadlines. Unfortunately some/many are Feb 1. It won’t be used until your schools formulate their aid package for you.

Also - FYI…I got me EFC immediately. As soon as I hit submit. I did have to wait a few days for the actual form to “process” (verify pin signature, whatever). But I did it on Saturday and got my “Your application has been processed and is available to schools” answer on Monday, I think. So you should know your EFC as soon as you submit. Hope you get a better answer than I did!
