Child is a us citizen but parents don’t but they have a ssn, when filling the FAFSA application does he needs to fill it with their ssn or just zeroes?
Hope somebody can help me ASAP
Thanks
How do they have SSNs if they are undocumented?
If it is not their SSN, or is a temporary tax number and not a SSN, then no, do not use it. Complete the FAFSA with zeros and follow the directions for submission.
Agreed. If they are undocumented, they do NOT have a SSN.
They need to complete the fafsa with Zeros for the parents in the SSN spot. You will have to print out thensignature page, sign it…and mail it. The directions should be on the site.
What exactly is the parents’ status? Are they really undocumented, or just not citizens?
Yes, they could be out of status right now, and so technically undocumented, but with an SSN from when they were in status.
The student should have a chat with the financial aid office at at least one of the places he/she is applying to and get advice specific to the parents’ situation. We don’t have enough expertise here to interpret the information that you have available.
