FAFSA PIN Both Parents?

I filled out the FAFSA with my son and got a pin. We are ready to apply for a Parent Plus loan. I make more money but my husband has a better FICO score. Whose name do we put the loan in? Mine, his, or both? And if it is his only does he need a PIN?

If only one parent signs the loan and that parent dies, the loan is forgiven. That sounds morbid, but a friend lost her husband recently and was astonished but immensely relieved that the loan he alone had taken out did not need to be paid back. It would make sense that if your husband takes out a loan, that he would need his own PIN.

If you want the PLUS loan, use the person who has the best chance of having credit approved. If the PLUS is in your husband’s name, he must sign the MPN with a PIN that is associated with just his name.
