FAFSA Problem

My 2015 IRS tax return was filed incorrectly, and is being refiled. If it won’t be done by the time the FAFSA is due, what do I do?

What do you mean, is being refiled, was it rejected when it was electronically submitted, or will it be amended?

As for FAFSA being due, the FAFSA for school year 2017/18 has just been available to file since Oct 1.

What due date are you referring to?

If you don’t have the correct numbers from your 2015 tax return by the time that you need to submit FAFSA, you will have to use your best estimates and then file a FAFSA correction once you know the actual numbers (if anything changes from the estimates). However, this begs the question: how come you don’t know those actual numbers right now, today? The 2015 tax year has been done for 9 1/2 months now.

Well…unless the OP is a business owner who filed for an extension until Octiber 15. Then the 2015 tax return would be due…now.

But even so…the info to complete that tax return should be readily available NOW.

If the return will be amended, I don’t think you will be able to use the data retrieval tool in FAFSA.

So you will probably need to get a tax transcript, which might take a while to be available once the return processes. Make sure any tax due gets paid right away so there aren’t any more delays.
