FAFSA question - number of students in family?

My son will be filling out the FAFSA form when it is available in October, we are wondering how to answer the question of how many children in the family will be enrolled in college next fall. His older sibling may enroll full or half time at community college (or may take the year off - will need to fill out FAFSA when a decision is made), his younger sibling, though still in high school, also plans to attend community college in a program working towards a certificate (& dependent on ACT scores, towards an AA - will not be filling out FAFSA )…
Does he put 1, 2, or 3 students? It will make a lot of difference as to what aid he is eligible for… (we are middle class income family of 6, aid is definitely necessary, though FAFSA may say he’s not eligible for much…)

Any thoughts?

Put 3, as to the best of your knowledge at the time you complete the application, there will be 3 attending college.

I’d put 2, and not count the student in high school (unless that child is leaving high school completely and the certificate is not part of some sort of dual enrollment initiative).

The high school kid doesn’t count unless the courses are not part of her HS program, and she is a matriculated student at the CC.

1 or 2…depending on what that older child will be doing …you do NOT count the child still in HS even if he’s taking CC classes.

And, it’s FAFSA…

Thank you all for your input! (And yes, I realized I accidentally left out the “F” in FAFSA, but wasn’t sure how to go back and edit it…oops!)
