can i submit one before being accepted?

Yes. If you are thinking about beginning in fall '10, you can submit a fafsa beginning January 1, 2010. You will use 2009 income info to complete the form.

i know this goes beyond all known conventions, but can i just fill out a fafsa in september (due to selective service, i can only begin registering then…my birthday is in june) and send it to a bunch of schools before applying for admission to any one of them?

correction: i think i got the dates wrong…you get my point thgh

Why would you want to?

^idk…but can i?

blech…this is a stupid hypothetical…i got the wrong dates in my head

still…is it impossible to apply for finaid at a school before applying for admission

Not sure I am understanding your question correctly. But if you are talking about submitting FAFSA this September and you will be applying for admissions for fall 2010, then no you cannot do this. The FAFSA currently available is the 2009-2010 FAFSA which is for the current school year of 2009-2010 (started this summer or fall and will be over by spring or summer 2010). If you use that to apply you will **not **have applied for aid **at all **for the 2010-2011 school year or met any of the deadlines your prospective schools may have for 2010-2011. They are 2 different applications and one year’s application year does not work for the other.

To apply for aid for the 2010-2011 school year you must submit the 2010-2011 FAFSA which is not available until January 1st, 2010. Once this is available then yes you can submit it to schools before being accepted or even applying to them. If you do not end up applying they will just ignore it.

I’m not sure what selective service has to do with the timing of your application.

^ya forget that ;)
