I have several questions about the pin.
1) If I register right away for a Electronic PIN on pin.ed.gov, and have it email to me insantly, can i use it right away for my FAFSA?
2)Also I read on the FAFSA website that I can register for a pin when I am actually filling out the FAFSA on the Web?
3) Does my parent and I (dependent) have to register for our each individual pin or we each have the same pin?
4)Also when I finally submit the FAFSA, how does the process work, how long does it take to get a response?

You can apply for a PIN right at the end of the FAFSA–when you come to the end and you don’t have one to sign with. The links are right on the page–absolutely BEST way to do it, IMHO. You get a PIN (same for parents) that is good for ONE time, to sign and submit the FAFSA, and then gets crunched and checked with Fed. Govt. data to be sure it is correct (don’t make a mistake–one student I work with did this, wrong SSN, and she got a letter, has to correct it all on paper via snailmail. Slow!)

You and parent have to apply separately, each for your own PIN, but you can even have the same one. You can also CHOOSE YOUR OWN when you apply.

It takes 2–4 days for the FAFSA to process, and it is locked while that goes on. Keep checking the last link under #3 on FAFSA home page, and it will let you thru when it is processed.
