FAFSA: Selective Services related problem

Hi guys,
So I turned 18 in June last year. I got a mail to register for the selective services. ~1.5 to 2 months ago, I went online to register. However, my SSN was not in the system, so I was told to register by mail. I submitted the form via mail a couple days later.

Now the problem is that they say it can take up to 90 days for them to enter me in the system. As you guys know, the FAFSA is due by Mar 2nd. I already submitted the FAFSA, but it is now saying that I haven’t registered for the selective services yet. I went to my SDSU portal, and it also stated that I still need to register for selective services.

Anyone has any idea on what I should do now? I tried going online again today, but the same thing: it won’t let me register online.

Thanks.

Is there still an option on FAFSA to ‘register me’? If so, do that. If it is just asking you if you’ve registered, check ‘yes’ because you have.

Were you able to get a FSA ID, meaning is there something wrong with your SSN? If so, fix that ASAP with the SSA

@twoinanddone Hi, so I logged into my fafsa acc right now. I don’t know where to find the “register me” option. It is on the 2019-2020 page, and it says: “Current Application Status: Processed Successfully”.

On the “manage my FSA ID” page, it says that my SSN is “matched” and my FSA ID is enabled. However, I don’t know what my FSA ID is. When I go to the CalGrant website to retrieve my FSA ID (by entering by SSN last 4 digits, last name, etc), it says that there is no information matching those credentials.
I’m confused on what’s going on.

If you just logged into the FAFSA…and checked YOUR FAFSA…the you have your FSA info…right?

Why do you say you don’t “know what my FSA ID is”.

And you wouldn’t get that via the Calgrant site anyway.

Am I misunderstanding your post above?

You only need the FSA ID to sign your FAFSA (and one of your parents needs a separate ID). When you’ve entered everything, sign it.

Calgrant will not have your FSA ID. In fact, no one has it and you have to put in all those security answers to get back into your account. Can you check with at least one of your schools to see if it received your FAFSA info?

DO NOT wait until March 2. Get this done now so that if there is an issue you’ll have time to fix it.

It sounds like your Selective service issue is fixed.

Can you call the Selective Service agency and see if they have your registration and can send you an email with the confirmation number?

@thumper1 So the FSA ID is the username?

Your FSA ID is really important. Go to this link to recover it: https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/pas/pub/ForgotUsername.
