FAFSA: Should we say dependent student WILL file return? Or NOT file?

Question on FAFSA: D earned about $5K in 2015 and deductions were taken out, so we are assuming she should file a 1040EZ to get those refunded.

Should we indicate that she WILL file a return, with Single status? Or does that conflict with us claiming her as an exemption on our 1040 and in the FAFSA parent information?

No, it will not conflict with you claiming her on your return. For her you will indicate that the number of exemptions is 0 (question 38).

Thanks. Maybe I’m too accustomed to TurboTax, but that FAFSA user interface is not particularly friendly, especially when trying to navigate to a particular item!
