Fafsa

I was accepted early action back in December. In February, I received a $12k scholarship which I was really excited to receive, but I never completed a FAFSA form because I figured I wouldn't be eligible for any financial aid. I recently noticed that a lot of people on this site have been saying FAFSA is required to get merit aid, yet I somehow still received that scholarship letter. My college counselors didn't even know you had to fill out FAFSA to receive it, so is it still too late to fill it out? And will I likely lose my scholarship since I missed the deadline? (I just noticed the reminder e-mails in my spam folder....)

Yeah this whole FAFSA thing at Fordham is so confusing. I would definitely call them though and ask. I don’t believe it is too late from what I have heard.

It is not too late, we did it after my S was accepted RD with merit aid. I would get it done sooner rather than later.

All kids who ACCEPT a scholarship and ACCEPT admission to Fordham are required to submit a FAFSA. If you don’t need further financial assistance other than the scholarship offered, its not a big deal. Just complete it and send it. If you need more money, complete it ASAP and see what happens, but likely they offer you student loans.

Fordham does this for many reasons, some of which is statistical, some of which is because they are not really needs blind in the strictest sense of the word. It is what it is.

If you are not attending Fordham and will decline the offer of admission, don’t worry about it. Simply notify them you are not coming, thanking them for the offer and then move along.

Welcome to Fordham if you are coming! Congrats on the merit aid.
