Great supp. essay
MAJOR: Social Studies

applying RD
only thing is...getting 2 Bs in midyear report

A pure guess, a fair but not great chance. The Bs can't help, the ECs are good but not exceptional. What I don't know is how Amherst (or any top schools) feels about the incredibly high number of qualified Asians who apply (e.g. are you competing in that demographic?).

it's good to hear the reality from someone else.
I love my ethnicity, but sometimes I hate the disadvantages that come with it. I think I am definitely in that demographic, and I'm not that "insanely good kid", but just a normal one. AHHHHHH

ah. i almost did ED to amherst but i didn't think i could give them a good essay, you know, the one on their supplement with the 6 quotes.

I think everything is good but your gpa my hurt your chances cause amherst is shockingly competitive in general, but especially RD. Your scores and other things seem to be there, but I'm not sure how they're going to look at your gpa when they have some crazy qualified applicants in the RD pool.

i wouldn't say its high high reach. you have as good a shot as lots of people i just mean your gpa may be something amherst sees as a weakness compared with SOME other applicants at least

No one on this board can tell you what your chances are. You have a very good profile, as I'm sure many other competitors do as well. I just read in the NYTImes that the high school graduating class of 2008 is the largest in two decades. So, even the highest achieving students should prepare themselves for rejection. College don't accept only 2400 SAT students. They accept a range of students. So, hang in there and hope for the best. Even if you don't get in, it certainly doesn't mean you aren't or weren't competitive. It's sad for me to read stats like yours that are so outstanding and have you feel that you've "failed". You're nothing close to a failure.
