Failed Three classes this semester...

Hi I am a sophomore at URI and this semester i think i overloaded my self with classes that were too difficult to take at the same time and i failed 3 of the 6 classes i was taking. I feel absolutely terrible and i don't know what to do, I've been physically sick and depressed. I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and this has made it a million times worse. I don't know what to do next, I won't be kicked out of school or lose my money but i have to tell my parents and they will be so upset, should i ask to stay home and go to CC or idk what steps to take to show them that i can do this or if i should just give up? I am currently changing my major also. Help!

Go to CC asap.

Try to retake them, it will usually get rid of your failed grade. And I don’t recommend taking more than 5 a semester.

Facing your parents will be hard but the good news is they probably won’t stop loving you over grades and you just got to get it over with.

Please honestly consider a few questions:
a) Are you ready – maturity, intellectually, emotionally – to remain at URI?
b) Is a/the cause of your problems this semester poor time-discipline (which is common)?
c) If not, what were the causes (I understand six courses, some very demanding, but was that the overriding reason)?

If you (with the advice of other “trusted agents”) can assess these questions thoroughly and candidly, I believe you may be a good deal closer to determining what to do next.

6 classes? How many credits were you taking???

You’re already a sophomore, so I don’t think going to a CC is a good idea.

Retake the failed classes, but don’t take so many total credits. If it will be too hard to retake all 3 this spring, retake 1 or 2, and then retake the remaining another semester.

Is your major too hard? What is your major?

Are your parents asking to see your grades?

@dlewis0416‌ it seems you need to reassess your strengths and weaknesses. Each of the most successful students learn to balance the course work. Retake one of the failed classes and three others. During the summer, retake another one of the failed classes and one other. During the fall, retake the last failed class and three others. In each case, you should have at least twelve credits to maintain your financial aid. Pick the classes based on how much work you will need to put in outside of the classroom time. You must have time for class, studying, personal chores, and down time. Don’t panic. Pace is the key.

Your parents will be supportive. They may even help you select a better set of classes for the upcoming semester. Seek their guidance and understanding. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck.

Tampa2015 has some sound advice. College is tough. Just as a side note, before you jump to a CC, realize that Community College is still college. My wife is a CC professor and I see kids every semester who think that if they pay tuition, they will pass and that simply isn’t true. You still have to do the work there as well.

First off you need to forgive yourself for the grades it is probably the hardest thing to do and when you are ready tell your parents. Second I do not think going to a cc is a good idea most universities have grade forgiveness. Another option is to take the classes at a cc during summer and have them transfer over. Don’t make a rash decision try to weigh out your options and choose what works best for you. I did the same thing with 6 class it is not healthy to be that stressed try to take a lighter load even if that means graduating later. I wish you all the best.

You need to take a serious look at to why you failed half your classes.
Are they to hard? Did you not study enough? Did you take to many classes? (I recommend not taking more than 5, even that is a stretch). Sit down and really think about why you failed them.

After that, see your GC and talk with them about what your options are. I would recommend retaking them next semester, or like someone else mentioned taking them in CC over summer to save money.

Why didn’t you drop some of them?
