i'm failing chemistry right now. actually i have a D but its definately going down to an F after my last test... none of my reasons my grade went down to a D was academic based so it's not that i don't understand chemistry. I took a test on friday however, and that WAS academic based but ive been studying all weekend so i understand it now. anyhow, i have a F in chem right now and i'm freaking out.

i have less then a month before the marking period ends and she'll only put in probably about 3 more grades, 2 of which will probably be 10 pointers.

last year seemed so easy, taking all regular level classes and i got straight A's. this marking period however, im struggling horribly. what is my best route to take? And of course, i will study much harder!
thank you:)

(btw, my top school is Princeton. i was hesitant to add this last part because my chances seem a million light years away, but last year, it almost sounded possible)

Is it too late to drop the class or have it removed from the transcript? Only your final semester grade will matter. You have a chance to get it up by the end of the semester if there are enough tests, and you crack down studying for a ton of them.

I took Honors Chem last year and barely made a B. I didn’t study as much as I should have. I did not do well on any of the tests (got an A on one of them). Was the most difficult class I had taken, but was also my favorite! This year I’m taking AP Chem and doing much better.

What do you mean by “none of my reasons my grade went down to a D was academic based so it’s not that i don’t understand chemistry”

thanks for the advice! i don’t want to drop because i might regret it my senior year that i didn’t try enough. and noneo of the reasons were academic because (this is more of a moral error) my sister told me for our first chem safety quiz the test was online and to just study those and i had a lot of homework that day so i decided to just do that. she is a senior so i assumed she knew what she was doing and that was the wrong test and not even the same material which i should have just knew. it was my fault but either way if i studies i know i could have gotten an A. the other reason was because we had our first lab notebook check but ive never done one of these before and my lab partner was sick that day and we didnt know how to write in our data table (no calculations, literally just copying stuff in a notebook) so i left it blank because i was going to see if anyone else knew how to do it. i wrote my procedure and objective and everything else but my teacher gave me a zero out of ten because i should have known better.

Well, clearly you’ll have to be taking more charge. I think it’s more just an issue of not having the right resources to use other than understanding of the material. Also read the textbook - I’ve done SO much better since I started reading the textbook. My teacher doesn’t teach right out of the textbook so the book will often teach you some tips and tricks that can help you with quick calculations on tests/quizzes.

Surely you’ll have more tests by the end of the semester? Study and do well on those, you should easily be able to bring it up to a B. I thought my teacher was the only one who took points off for not bringing lab books! Just remember to do that and get those easy points. Be prepared if your lab partner isn’t at school and if they have graphs or other data, have their e-mail/phone number so you can get those from them. Even when I was paried up with some of the mos responsible kids they didn’t send me the data we recorded in labs without me asking!

Also, I’m not sure how meticulously your teacher grades labs, but mine most certainly does. Try to give him/her NO reason to take off points on labs (include units everywhere, very concrete and clear conclusions, follow lab report guidelines TO THE LETTER).

Thank you! This really helped! Good news, i got a C on that chem test which actually raised me to a 70 and i did a hw assignment which raised me to a 73 i have one more test and my lab nb check. Question: i messed up and scribbled quite alot on one page but its too late to rewrite it because the next pages are filled w a second lab.what to do?
