Failing an AP test vs. not taking it.

This year I'm in AP English Language (as well as some others, but this is the only AP test I'm concerned about passing) and I do really poorly on our AP in class essays and multiple choice. I got an A in the class (last trimester, and will probably get an A again), but I really don't know if I will pass the test. So, which is better? To take the test and possibly fail it? Or to not take the test?

Same dilemma here, but I am self-studying…

But I already signed up for the exam, so I am screwed…

you should attempt to pass

you always have the chance to cancel your score if you feel that you fail, but you have to cancel before June 15.

Take the test, and if you feel you’re going to fail, then just ask for your scores to be cancelled.

You should ask your teacher, too. He or she may be able to give you better suggestions.

If you are a good writer and critical reader, you should be able to do well on this test. It is really more of a skills test than a test based on a set curriculum. It would probably help to calm your nerves if you got a prep book and did some practice, but realistically these skills should already be there. This is not a test that you can really prepare for other than familiarizing yourself with the format of the exam.

Thanks for the replies! I will try to do some practice on my own. If I do somehow get a 2 or 3 though… would that severely hurt my chances at getting into college?

not really. SAT and Grades are the strongest factors of getting into college. Besides, from CC, I remember a person accepted to Harvard and he has one or two 2’s on the AP exams.
