Hello, Im currently at LASC and im taking spanish 2 for the third time. I took it it the first time and Got a F, I took it a second time but dropped before the dead line, now im taking it for the third time and Im just so lost in the class room and cant keep up that I want to drop. My dilemma is, if its okay to retake spanish 1 at another college although ive already passed it at LASC. I attended ECC and Got a W in spanish 1 over there. I was thinking about retaking the spanish 1 class there and then taking span 2 over there as well. Will this be a good move for me? Am I allowed to retake a class Ive passed in one college at another college? Will this affect my chances of transferring? I was accepted to UCLA for fall of 2016, but Id failed that spanish class & got a D in another class, so i didnt fill out my intent form for ucla. I just grieved and gave up on school after seeing that I blew it in the final stretch of the college transfer race. Anyways, After a year of depression, I decided to take spanish again. Spanish is very difficult for me, I dont know why but it just is. Sorry for this long post, I just need to get this off my chest.
Look - your approach with Spanish hasn’t worked - you gotta try something different. If you otherwise qualified for UCLA, i imagine your study habits are OK but, you have to find a way to a C in the class. To replace the grade, you do need to take it at the same school. maybe Rosetta Stone, a tutor or take a foundational/conversational course to get the basics in your brain before taking spanish 2 again.
Either way, you are burning another semester or 2 at the CC. Perhaps a a Cal State is something to explore.
Agree^.
Spanish is a very difficult language to learn, as you have discovered.
Either the rules of the grammar aren’t sticking, or the rate and accent are impacting you-or both. You can’t “think” in English and then translate it to Spanish. You have to try to think in Spanish. The best way to learn a language, even for a “C” grade, is to immerse yourself in the language and practice listening/speaking. In your case, I would recommend a native language tutor.
Then, you must “think” in Spanish. That means Spanish language TV, Spanish children’s books, and Spanish You Tube and Spanish study groups. Foreign language courses are not easy, but you should try to change your current approach because it does not appear to be working.
