Foreign Language: Spanish

Can the foreign language requirement be completed Pass/No Pass? I took Spanish at a community college nearly three years ago which gave me credit for Spanish 1 and 2 at UCLA. It would be difficult for me to take Spanish 3 now so I was wondering. Also has anyone taken Spanish 3? How is it? Thanks!

According to the grading detail [Schedule of Classes: Class Listing](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/subdet.aspx?srs=349010201&term=10F&session=)

Of course you could take Spanish 3 (or fulfill the foreign language requirement) with a Pass/No Pass!

you think that would be best route for me to just do pass no pass for spanish 3? I honestly don’t remember any spanish… or should I just take another foreign language from the beginning?

anyone???

If you have lots of requirements for major and is looking to fulfill the foreign language requirement, you could take Span 3 P/NP and be done in a quarter. If your time is a little more lenient you could take 3 quarters of a new language.

ill be an upcoming 4th year so it is kind of pushing it… have you taken spanish 3?

I’m going to take it this year in fact. Do you have room in your schedule to take it every quarter this year? You could take the test to try to place out of it, otherwise I guess taking it is fine :)

Has anyone taken the Spanish placement exam at UCLA? How easy/difficult is it, especially for a non-native speaker?

^ I’ve got the same question as Lakerss. Anyone have any advice?

I’ve taken it - I took Spanish 1 Freshman year of HS and Spanish 2 and 3 Sophomore year. I’'m now an entering Sophomore and barely tested into Spanish 3. I personally thought it was pretty hard, some random questions - one was like give the spanish word for a pretzel cart vendor. (well, when you don’t know pretzel or vendor/seller, it’s kinda hard)

[Department of Spanish and Portuguese - Self-Placement](http://www.spanport.ucla.edu/content/view/211/108/)

If you took 3 years in high school, couldn’t you have just gone straight to Spanish 4 at UCLA, or am I reading that link wrong? I took 4 years in high school, so I was hoping to go straight into Span 4 or 5 at UCLA without taking the placement exam. Is that possible?

Also, if your taking or have taken Span 3 at UCLA, how easy/difficult is it?

It’s a multiple choice test on a computer. You should know your conjugations, unique and common, as well as understanding things in context. Id suggest reading a spanish newspaper or something because a couple questions were a paragraph long story.
