Trainer@123 when you applied you should have received an email as to how to sign in to the admissions portal from Fairfield Univ…Subject is Fairfield Univ Application Status
@Neely what are the other schools you applied for CS
D is into the business school. 20k scholarship. 3.85W GPA, 33 ACT… Lots of honors and AP.
@TomCT
We applied for Penn State, WPI, Wentworth, RPI, RIT. Son already got accepted in Penn State, WPI and Wentworth. Deciding among these. They are all excellent for CS.
Accepted to Nursing with 25k!!
Son accepted into nursing. Magis scholarship. 1410 SAT, 4.4 W GPA, strong ECs.
@TomCT though known mainly for nursing and business Fairfield has made significant investments in the Arts & Sciences especially communications, biology, chemistry and engineering. They may not be as well knows as RIT and WPI for computer science but I feel they are better known for a well rounded liberal arts education due to their Core Curriculum and Jesuit focus. My son is a sophomore and has already changed is major. He also has not had a problem maintaining the required gpa for his scholarship.
@jcd716 Did your son change major from CS to another?
Yes, the school is known for business and nursing.
From my research so far, their CS is not the best but the school is growing. They have doubled the number of CS & CE students since 2016 (from below 20 to about 40 CS & CE combined). They seems to have more than 100 software engineering graduate students last year. I have also noticed that they are hiring more CS professors this year.
With Magis Scholarship, Fairfield is one of the top options we have.
@Neely We are waiting for Umass, northeastern, UConn, RPI & RIT results.
@TomCT he switched from Economics to Accounting. For my son the beautiful campus, small class sizes, internship opportunities, strong alumni network, nice safe neighborhood and 4 years guaranteed housing is what sealed the deal for him. Somehow they all end up where their suppose to be. Good luck!
@jcd716 Thanks for the reply. We like the school. School is about 3 miles from home.
We are waiting for the results from other schools which have comparatively better CS program. I work in computer field. I compared their CS program with UConn & UMass which have more or less same courses but several elective choices (they have more CS professors). Fairfield CS has very less elective choices compared to those big schools. However, a student can only take 4 to 6 elective classes on their major in 4 years so having more electives may not make much difference as long as the once they have is recent technologies such as cyber security, AI & data science. There is small school advantage with less students in a class. I plan to talk to a CS department/professor or a senior CS student to know more on their CS electives which are not listed in their course details on website. Also want to find out their CS internship opportunities especially that GE is moved from Fairfield.
@TomCT
All the best to your son with the other schools. I am sure he will get in with good scholarships. We spoke to the CS professor and a senior student in Fairfield during Engineering open house and got a good idea on their program and internships.
UConn and Umass Amherst are great for CS if your son likes big schools.
My son will mostly choose between WPI and Wentworth because they have great Coops with Boston companies for internships.
We are still waiting for RPI and RIT to make a final decision.
D20 was deferred for Nursing. Applied EA, 94.4/100 GPA, 1250 SAT, NY
D deferred for nursing as well. Pretty sure that she’s going to rescind the application. She has some good acceptances already under her belt and I suspect that she will have made her decision before Fairfield gets around to sending out regular decisions. So kind of a bummer only because nobody wants to be deferred but not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.
daughter was accepted into nursing – competitive private high school 3.5 gpa did not submit scores — honors/AP, works in hospital, tons of volunteer hours, visited campus several times and interviewed
Anyone know chances of acceptance and/or scholarship after deferral to regular decision? My son applied EA Computer Science and was deferred. SAT 1220 GPA 3.19
@CT2018Grad He still has a chance for both but may depend on the profile of the students who applied this year. I have read students being accepted with those stats but he may not get their top merit scholarships.
@jcd716 thank you! The deferred decision date is late, April 1. So we are just trying to get our head around his realistic choices at this point. In the end, it’s a wait and see! It sounds like your son is happy so far at Fairfield?
@CT2018Grad yes he is very happy there. Let me know if you have any other questions
@CT2018Grad What other schools did your son apply for CS?
We are waiting for ED2 decisions…Hopefully soon since the cutoff is Jan 15th…
