@jcd716 Thank you for the exact details on gpa and scholarships.
@booknerdmom
Think it’s March 18th… not exactly sure
ED is not binding when you ask for financial aid. If the aid offer is insufficient to support attendance, you say thanks but no thanks and apply elsewhere.
@vonlost
We don’t qualify for financial aid. So they said it will be binding in that case.
@ABC2024 It is binding but you can get out of it…I mean if you can’t afford it, you can’t afford it…I’m sure it will cost me if we bail out but I’m not going to jail if I bail ya know LOL. We don’t qualify for FA either…But I did just put Son #1 through 4 yrs of college and it wasn’t cheap…
There has to be something in place that they can work with people w/ financial concerns or an ‘opt out’. Not everything is visible via Fasfa/CSS. I just don’t see how they can hold you to it. Especially if your son doesn’t show up lol. Even if they left him enrolled, don’t you get so many days to withdraw w/o cost or penalty?
Anyone receive a letter from Financial Aid today? Seeing one in an informed delivery e-mail for today and wondering what it could be about.
@otherhood2020 Nothing here…we are waiting to hear about our merit money appeal…UGH
@basilwat thanks for the reply. Got home and it was a verification letter. Oddly enough, everything they are asking for, we’ve already submitted. Since I’m on the west coast, by the time read the letter, the FA office was closed. I’ll have to call tomorrow.
Good luck with your appeal!! I hope they give you some $$$.
Anyone out there have experience with verifications?
It’s common for schools to verify what you initially sent. I received that for my other son but not until after he accepted (at a different school in CT)
RD result is Out! Good luck to everyone.
For those who appealed your merit scholarship - were you successful?
2 years ago we were not. They wanted to see a change in his application such as increased grades, test scores, awards etc.
@HVasconi We were not successful in our merit appeal…
Oh no!! @basilwat I’m so sorry!! So what will you guys do? What other schools are you guys considering?
@HVasconi While I appealed my merit aid, I was unable to increase my scholarship since I had already received the highest level of merit (Magis scholarship @ 25k/yr). However, their response indicated to me that had this not been the case, they would reevaluate if a student had an increase in academic performance senior year so it is definitely worth trying!
Just to update - after being deferred, D20 was waitlisted. She had already ruled out Fairfield, but I thought I would give the final update for others who are researching colleges. Congrats and good luck to everyone who will be attending.
how difficult are the classes?
