@jcd716 thank you!! I am not going to lie and say all of his grades throughout high school were fabulous…but 11th and 12th were/are excellent and I think they should take his growth and commitment in to consideration…fingers crossed! I don’t need a lot and am not expecting it, but something would be extremely helpful!!
Congrats to all on your acceptances!!
@basilwat May I ask what is entailed in filing an appeal? My son was also accepted into Dolan EA and just last night told me he is starting to lean towards Fairfield as his first choice.
@Tiki24 my son appealed 2 years ago. He sent emailed his admissions counselor and was forwarded a form to complete. They want to see a change is their application such as increased gpa, test score, awards etc. in the end they did not increase his scholarship but it was still generous.
Thank you @jcd716 ~ it is such a great school, I would love to see it work out numbers wise. The more he thinks about all Fairfield has to offer, it seems like it would be the perfect fit.
@Tiki24 my son is a sophomore business major who has decided to get his Masters in Accounting and we have been so impressed with the business school and the career development center. I understand the finances need to work but you will not be disappointed. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Appreciate it!! Thank you so much for sharing! @jcd716 What else did your son consider? I saw that they play men’s basketball offsite and do not have a football team ~ is there still plenty to do socially at night and weekends?
@Tiki24 they play almost half of there games on campus and usually sell out but they are building a new sports arena so all games will be on campus once it’s done in i believe 2021. No football but they have plenty of activities going on and the town is also nice to go to movies, bowling, shopping or out to eat.
My son had a hard time choosing between Fairfield, Bentley and Loyola MD. Loyola gave the most money and Bentley the least. Fairfield was right in the middle. He just fell in love with the campus and the new business building is awesome.
So good to hear! @jcd716 My son fell in love with the campus/location too. I didn’t realize they were building a new sports arena. Can’t imagine that campus getting any better, it is beautiful! Lol
@Tiki24 There is a an appeal form…it’s not long…My son has to fill this out.#1 is General info. 1) Complete the information on the form below.

Please complete the statement below indicating the reasons why you believe you are deserving of a larger merit award. What sets you apart from your peers? Of what are you most proud academically and co-curricularly? Are there any circumstances that have impacted your academic record that were not described in your application?
-
If you have updated academic information that was not available when you initially submitted your application, please e-mail that information.
@Tiki24 I also sent an email to the VP of Enrollment as suggested by the Admissions office…
@basilwat Good to know!! Thank you so much! That is super helpful! Good luck to you and your son!
don’t give up yet. I knew a parent whose 2nd child was accepted but did not get any money. She appealed and he ended up getting merit scholarship which was enough for him to attend.
@jcd just wondering- did this student you were referring to apply EA, ED or RD?
We wanted to apply ED but were scared about the scholarship part because ED is binding…
Not sure if it also depends on how competitive the major is… I know that for business and nursing they are very competitive
@ABC2024 I can’t remember if it was early action or regular but I know it was not ED. Nursing is probably the most competitive because it has the smallest numbers. I believe this person was accepted to the business school. Good luck everyone! It’s an awesome school but however it turns out in the end they seem to end up where they are meant to be both academically, socially and financially.
@jcd716 thank you!
@basilwat
If this is ok to ask- did your son get good scholarships from other schools you applied but not just from Fairfield ? I have heard this from others, so just curious
Just trying to understand how tough they are when it comes to scholarships especially because they are so expensive . We are waiting for RD.
Thank you
@ABC2024 He did not apply to a lot of schools. He was accepted at LSU but has not received any money yet but that is ok because it’s more in line with what we wanted to pay. I’m not sure that he will. His grades in 9th and 10th were not great but they are excellent in 11th and 12th and would hope they would take that in to consideration. I think if you have a solid GPA and good test scores and lots of extra curricular you will get good money. He played sports 2 and sometimes 3 seasons at his private high school and didn’t have too much time for much else thereafter. We did apply ED2 and they made a point on the phone to tell me that has nothing to do with why he didn’t receive money. But all his friends who applied EA received money. So, I’m skeptical…But it is what it is…Hopefully, he will get some money…We shall see!!
@basilwat
Thank you for your response. We wanted to apply ED2 but changed our mind and applied RD. My son got decent scholarships from other colleges but now I feel that we can’t expect the same from Fairfield.
All the best and hope it all works out for you guys.
@ABC2024 Fairfield’s top scholarship is $25k/yr. Those usually go to the 3.9-4.0+ gpa’s, $20k usually goes to 3.7-3.8 then I think it’s $17000 and then $9000. They also take into account extra curriculars and rigor of classes taken so nothing is set in stone. The scholarship amount my son received from Fairfield was very much in line with the other schools with only Loyola MD and St. Joseph’s Philly giving $4-5k more per year.
For RD, are all RD decisions released ON April 1 or BY April 1? And is it possible that decisions will “roll out” between now and April 1? TIA
@"#booknerdmom" the past 2 years they have been released on March 15 or 16. They are not rolling. They will notify applicants of the day/time they will be available on the portal.
