Fairfield University Class of 2025 Early Action

We had an email last Weds (1/20) with general info but there was a PS at the bottom that said if you applied for need based aid they would be “sending those decisions out in the next couple of weeks.”

They just posted that early action financial aid letters are being mailed Wednesday.

Are they being sent in the actual mail, or email?

They are packets being mailed.

Has anyone received a financial aid package yet - my son was admitted early action and all other schools have sent their financial aid packages- could we have missed it in the mail?

We received ours Friday in MA.

Yesterday, Michigan

We’re in Texas and still haven’t received the financial aid package. We have really bad postal service in my area though. Hoping it didn’t get delivered to a neighbor, which happens way too often here.

Hi - I know you were wondering about the accuracy of the NPC. Wondering how you made out when the actual letter came? We got the letter Friday night and it was off by over $10,000 for us. Total bummer. I really thought this would be THE ONE. All our other NPCs so far have come in within $1,000 of projection. Both CSS and non CSS schools. Just wondering if anyone else in the same boat?

Strange we haven’t received it since we live in CT!

@Ferryp we didn’t get a letter yet either (MA). I just had my daughter check the portal and it was there.

@SWMomMA really disappointing! However, out of 9 schools Fairfield was the highest price with the NPC so it matched alright. I had thought it might be a mistake because there are more competitive schools on her list. The other schools came in $15k+ lower per the NPC - but we haven’t seen the true results yet. The only other financial info we received was UMass Amherst and the results were expect because it’s in state tuition.

Thank you - I just checked and there is a list and said it was updated 1/20 - but no details - no numbers! I called the office and they said that’s normal and will arrive in the mail. The list is
Scholarship (which we were aware of)
School tuition grant
Loans

Total amount of aid

But it is entirely blank - weird ?

Thanks for the info! I am sure in the end he will end up where he is supposed to. Just a bummer to see such a dramatic difference. UMass is on our list too. Really can’t go wrong with Isenberg in state. He was just hoping to end up someplace different as his brother and so many other kids from his HS go to UMass. Good luck to your daughter!

I just checked the portal and saw the estimated financial aid package dated 1/20. It includes the scholarship my daughter received and the direct unsubsidized loan amount. It’s pretty close to the NPC. We were really hoping to get more financial aid, but we weren’t expecting it. College prices are nauseatingly expensive these days. While our daughter loves Fairfield U, we’re not sure we’ll be able to swing it.

That may not be your final letter. The one my son received on 1/29 was dated 1/27. I guess there is still a glimmer of hope you can get more.

@SWMomMA my daughter feels the same. She wanted to try somewhere new and a lot of kids from her HS go to UMass. She was accepted to Univ of Pitt - I’m hoping for some $ to bring it to the UMass price.

@CollegeYaYa YES - the cost is crazy!! This is my first of three kids. I knew it was going to be expensive but this is flat out insanity! And the EFC is laughable.

I feel April is going to feel like a pressure cooker. The rest of the decisions/financial packets come out and a decision need to be made by May 1st. Never mind trying to visit the school before you commit. I’m trying to not add to her stress, but the financial piece is weighing on our mind! And of course we all want them to have a positive experience!!
Deferments and Waitlist are going to also be a big issue this year.

We will survive though! :joy:

This is my first of three kids too. The college application process has been an incredible learning experience. And yes - the EFC is utterly ridiculous. It expects us to pay over 1/3 of our gross income per year. We don’t have a lot of assets either. We do have home equity because we bought 15 years ago and stayed in the same home. I guess we’re expected to take out a home equity loan and put our home at risk if we can’t pay it back for some reason (job loss, illness, etc). This college bubble will burst. I just wish it would happen soon.

What is the average scholarship amount students are given? And about what percentage of students receive scholarships?

According to their website the incoming class of 2020 was 1115 students, 1043 or 93.5% received institutional aid. Average Institutional Package (excluding federal or state aid) was $23,969.
I believe the merit scholarships range from $8000 to $26,000.

Any advice on appealing merit? He was accepted to business school. Rigorous senior year…
trying to make it work and move it into a realistic spot.
