@happy1 Yes you are right. If there was a choice, s/he should have deposited.
@Doppler213 same! I am in the same situation as you. I got waitlisted to my top schools, Fairfield and Fordham. Also I called the other schools (my safety choices) and they said I have until May 14th to deposit. They’re being generous and letting me submit my deposit late. So hopefully fairfield can let me know Saturday or Monday. Last time, they sent me my decision on a Saturday. So let’s see
@happy1 yeah you’re right, I was dumb to not deposit to a school. But I thought once you deposit, you can’t get your money back.
And you know I am not that wealthy lol, I’m below average at the moment. So my mother can not afford to waste money. That is why I am choosing my college wisely. It’s a stressful moment.
Fairfield waitlists a lot of students because they want to have a back up. The school is very expensive and the packages are good for some but not the best packages. So there are a lot of students that will go elsewhere, I have been hearing this for years. Most schools waitlist many and they all seem to be doing it more and more. They have to protect their yield and make sure they fill every seat.
@mrs806 Yeah I just realized that a couple weeks ago. My friend with a freaking 4.2 GPA got waitlisted from Fairfield. But that doesn’t matter to him because he’s going to University of Pittsburgh.
We will never know what it is that they are looking for, a good GPA, a great GPA, its just a crazy process!! There is no logic what so ever to this nightmare!! There is just too many kids applying for so little spots.
It was very gracious of the other schools to extend your deadline. Definitely deposit at one on Monday. In another post you said you got a good scholarship from Manhattanville so that is an excellent option. Keep in mind that for Fairfield to work you need not one but two things to happen – 1) you need to get in and 2) it needs to be affordable so that is a very tall order.
@happy1 yeah I agree. If I don’t get into Fairfield, then I am going to Manhattanville. I also got in SHU, but don’t want to go there.
Very good advice from happy 1. We love Fairfield and my son will be attending in the fall but it isn’t even close to an affordable school.
Oh, I forgot! I submitted my AP art portfolio yesterday, and it asked what school I would like to send it to, I chose Fairfield. I totally forgot about that, lol. Maybe that will increase my chance in getting in. It is 24 art pieces.
Good, anything to show how interested you are can only help you.
@Doppler213 have you heard back? I still haven’t, and today is my deadline for Manhattanville and SHU. So today is my last day to hear from Fairfield.
@Doppler213 just got off the phone with them. They said the waitlist is closed. And I will receive an e-mail shortly about something, didn’t hear her fully. So I guess we didn’t get in
@AnonymousTuxedo Yes, I received an email that the spots are not available now. What about you? Did you get in?
@Doppler213 nope. I decided that I am going to attend a college in the spring 2019 semester. I am going to re-apply to all my colleges early as possible. The reason why I didn’t get in Fairfield was because I applied late. I know I would’ve got in if I appplied on time.
If you apply binding ED it may help but that may not be a good route since I believe you need significant financial aid. Other than that an earlier application likely will not change the outcome (assuming your application was in by the deadline this year). In general only extremely well qualified applicants get in EA and Fairfield does not practice rolling admission. IMO it is a mistake to pin all your hopes and dreams on any one school so if you turn down the affordable options you have been accepted into and re-apply please be sure to: 1) understand if merit aid is available for spring applicants; 2) do something valuable in the first semester and 3) cast a wide net in terms of the applications you send out.
