Any idea what the typical punishment is for academy/ROTC cadets getting caught in the act of purchasing fake id? I'm trying to reconcile two similar cases that resulted in two very different punishments...

I would venture to say that for an academy cadet/mid it would classify as:

[ul]
[]a crime
[]a gross violation of the honor code/concept
[li]a Class 1 offense in the highest[/li][/ul]

and a recommendation for disenrollment would not be surprising in the least.

Using a fake ID at USAFA would be an honor violation.

I know two ROTC mids got kicked out of the unit for using a fake, which is kind of the same thing

Huh. Makes me feel better that the case that prompted me to ask the question (an ROTC member who got off with nothing more than a talking-to) seems to be an isolated one. I was a little taken aback when a clear honor violation was taken so lightly, when the only other such case I knew about got a cadet thrown out immediately.
