Does anyone know when the grades for this semester (Fall 2006) will be posted in OASIS?

thanks.

Whenever a nailbiting CCer posts a thread saying the grades are up. :) I think it's about a week after the end of exams.

http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/grades/faq.html

"I've completed all my finals. When will my grades be posted to my record?
Instructors must submit completed grade sheets within 4 working days from the date of the scheduled examination for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. It takes five working days to process grades from the time the instructor submits the grade sheet. Processing of course work completed in "special sessions" occurs periodically throughout the term as instructors submit a representative number of grade sheets."

Indeed. Also, grades may sometimes be posted to "completed course summary" before the current semester appears under "grade reports".

From the USC LiveJournal:

"in theory, everything should be up by friday, 12/22. it's not quite 9 working days, but the university is closed for the week between christmas and new year's, and if i remember correctly, they've always gotten grades up before christmas."

"in my experience its been right around dec 23rd or so."

ughh, i really am look looking forward to getting my grades...

They definitely get everything up before Christmas.

They're up on OASIS.

Let's just say, does a hard copy get mailed anywhere?

BTW, how does FERPA work?

Yup just checked them.

Aghh they are :)

What FERPA means is that only you can access your educational records for college, and no one else. The university, by federal law, cannot give your parents any of your educational records, even if you are a minor or they are paying your tuition.

What you can do is to waive your rights and create an account on OASIS for your parents to access your records (including grades). This is technically the legal way for your parents to get your grades without you having to log in and show them in person.

Also, nothing is placed in hard copy unless you request a written transcript - you don't get a paper grade report mailed home.

i still think the gpa system is stupid. 3.7 for an A-? weeaaaak.

Yeah, but it weeds out the best from the better. Makes you really appreciate solid A's!

I don't like the 3.7 either. I got 2 A-... sigh. I mean i like the A's but would have liked it even more if they were 4.0

I know what you mean, especially when you're on a borderline, or you lost points on something stupid like a late homework that pushed you down from an A.

We should be glad, though, that an A- counts for 3.7 and not 3.67 (which it could just as easily be)

Also, an A- gpa (3.7) is enough to graduate magna cum laude (with high honors)...

Are the ranges for for Latin honors different at other schools?

Yeah, they vary wildly since they're primarily based on "tradition"

Some are higher - Berkeley is 3.799 for the equivalent "high honors"
Others are lower - Temple is more like 3.5 for magna cum laude, Arizona State is like 3.6,

At other schools it's less clear - Harvard sets it as the top 20% graduating get at least magna cum laude... Yale sets it as no more than 10% get magna cum laude or higher.

And there are a few that are the same... NYU is 3.7 for magna cum laude as well (with some higher restrictions on class rank depending on the school)
