Alright, I registered my classes and I am taking great books 191, chem 210/211, and eecs 183. i also plan on doing urop for either 3 or 4 credits. is this a good transitional semester courseload?

As long as you aren't taking orgo, or doing something extra-time consuming, you should be fine...

Yeah, that sounds good.

Chem 210/211 is orgo

Does not compute

Great Books 191 (Honors)
Chem 210/211 (Organic Chemistry)
EECS 183 (Electrical Engineering Computer Science)
UROP

Exactly what are you planning?

You don't necessarily have to plan anything...take what you like. Plus EECS is useful for lots of things.

BEWARE of UROP. Nothing sucks up more unneccesary time like urop. I hated those wednesday night seminars....

But the schedule does look quite managable.

Yeah, I've heard the same things about UROP. It does give you research opportunity, though.

That's good courseload. I took great books with orgo and multivariable calc and a french class. Definitely manageable, but UROP absolutely sucks! You're better off just emailing profs and working on your own.

I have a question. What courses does a sophomore Econ major generally take in Fall semester?

i took a very similar schedule. i struggle with it though. i'd consider not doing orgo until a little later.

Looks managable; just keep on top of 210/211 and you should be OK

make sure you stay on top of a class at ALL times. I got As or Bs on Exams 1 and 2 as well as the final. but i did terrible on the third exam, which brought me from a B+/B to a C.

MightyNick, ECON 401 (though some are still at 102) will give you a head start. You also might want to check out ACC 271. It also depends on how far you want to go with math. I heard 300-level electives are rather pointless. I'm not an econ major, but I started out prepared to be one if I didn't get into Ross. Some take STATS 405 or 425, but you don't need that now. You can use the extra space to take things you like.

Is ACC 271 introductory financial accounting? I've already taken that freshman year. Besides, I think all the B-school classes like ACC, Finance etc will be full by the time I get to orientation, which is August 28th. :(

Do you know anything about professor Kuhn for Econ 401? All other Econ classes in which he's not the teacher are full, so I'm assuming he's a really bad teacher? Also, as an Econ major do you need to take higher level math like Calc II? I already have credit for Calc 1 (Math 120).

He is not great...

Calc 2 is definitely recommended. It's a prerequisite for ECON (also STATS) 405 and ECON 406. Some people go up to linear algebra and beyond, but it's not necessary. Are you a transfer? I was confused when you mentioned your orientation.

Yeah I'm a transfer student. I want to major in Finance but I didn't bother applying to Ross as a transfer beceause I knew I wouldn't get in. Do you think I should apply at the end of my sophomore year? If I get in, it would mean an extra year since BBA is a 3 year program. I wonder if Ross is worth the extra 45K. If I don't get in I'll continue with Econ and minor in Finance or Statistics.

All my friends had Kuhn and joked about him a lot. I can't quite remember what about, though, because the topic of econ generally bores me.

They must have made jokes about his accent.
