First Semester Schedule

I'm going to be a sophomore transfer student in EECS and my current schedule is just EECS 203, EECS 270, and ECON 101. I am also doing UROP for work-study. My advisor wanted to keep my course load low for my first semester and limit me to 12 credits, but since I am already paying for 18 credits that seems too low to me. Would adding EECS 215 or maybe just PHIL 202 be too much work? Thanks for any advice/input.

As a sophomore last year, first semester I took

EECS 215
EECS 270
Math 575
Math 256
Tech Com 300 (1 credit)

Which wasn't too much work. I don't know how much work Econ 101 will be. EECS 215 is a big time sucker - Taking 203, 215, 270, the econ class and UROP might be a bit too much. Taking the philosophy class should be fine.

Which area of EECS are you interested in? CE?

Yeah, I'm doing CE. How was Tech Com 300? I might try to take that as well. Would it be ok to go ahead and enroll in EECS 215 and then drop it if it is too much work since I would need an override to even get into it, I don't want to block anyone else from taking it or anything?

Of course. You can go ahead and sign up for 18 credits, and drop if/when you need to. That way, you can check out each of your classes and figure out what you like and what you don't.

TC is pretty dumb... It's one of these required courses that no one cares much about. It meets once a week, you have a grand total of like 5 or so assignments (think a cover letter, resume, memo, presentation, article). How annoying it is depends on who you have teaching it. I took it with Hildinger (who also taught the TC component of my engin 100 class) who I personally like, and it was very easy.

The only thing to be worried about in terms of your classes might be the labs. 3 hour labs, once a week for 270 and every other week for 215.

Thanks a lot! If my permissions go through, my new schedule will be EECS 203, EECS 215, EECS 270, ECON 101, and TCHNCLCM 300.
