Fall 2009 Acceptance letter

Thanks, pierre0913! I'll look for it around then!

My D received her acceptance into Animal and Veterinary Sciences yesterday:). We're very excited since it was her 1st choice. She may wait to hear from Virginia Tech before making a final decision. We're OOS in MA.

I'm sorry but is Furman not easier to get into then Clemson? I believe Clemson is the most pretengious of the SC schools...

Furman is harder to get into than Clemson, but on the other hand it depends on your major, some majors at Clemson are hard to get into

Furman, Wofford, and Presbyterian College are the most prestigous schools in SC, in that order. They are all private LACs. Clemson is the hardest public university to get into in the state. Many students who can get in Clemson can not get in Furman.

LOL. Clemson is definitely the hardest university to get into in SC. Furman is easy, contrary to popular belief. Just for comparison I got into Clemson mid October and PC mid November. PC offered me one of their highest scholorships and I'm not expecting to get anything from Clemson.

Thats a joke, Furman is one of the hardest schools in the South to get into and Clemson is only the hardest Public in SC. And it doesn't surprise me that you didn't get any money from Clemson because they don't give out many scholarships.

My S got a preliminary acceptance letter from Clemson the end of his junior year with a 1340 on the SAT, and he hadn't even applied! If you have good SAT scores, Clemson will accept you, though they do admit by college, and it depends on the size (business, sciences, etc.) of that particular one. They also offered scholarship money when he applied in the fall, and a bit more in the spring. But it was still less expensive to go to a private school costing $35k because of the huge merit scholarships he was offered from Wofford and PC.

I'm not bashing you or anything josh, just telling the truth. I'm not saying Furman is a bad school either, in fact I live very close to it so I'm very familiar with it.

In my opinion and I'm sure many others, Clemson is harder to get into.

Maybe we can agree to disagree though.

I'm also going to have to AGREE with josh5sox. For the record, I'm in-state and live in the Columbia area.

Also, if you see this (Frequently Asked Questions), it seems that most people haven't been notified of scholarships (at least the academic recruiting ones--and at least based on my interpretation of the wording). My guess is, since the site says Clemson'll let people know about academic recruiting scholarships by March 1st, they will start notifying people within the next two weeks. (Though I guess this excludes OOS waivers, the Coca-Cola Scholarship thing I got when I got accepted several months ago, and the National Scholars thing).

Also, how is saying that you got money from PC indicative of Furman being "easier" to get into than Clemson?

I'm truly convinced that, moreover, the vast majority (if not all) SC high school teachers and guidance counselors would say that Furman is harder to get into than Clemson.

Also, when I tell my teachers and guidance counselor that I got recommended for the Bridge Program rather than getting into Clemson they tell me I should appeal, since I got into Furman I should've gotten into Clemson.

Definitely, if you look at the stats, the SAT scores and class rank of Furman students is higher than that of Clemson students. I would definitely appeal Clemson's decision if you truly want to go there next year or would consider going there.

Furman Class of 2012 from their website:
1200-1380 SAT
28.3% SC residents
3.68 unweighted GPA

Clemson Class of 2011 from their website:
1150-1310
25-30 ACT
67% SC residents
GPA not listed

Since it's acceptance by school, do I have a better shot since I applied for Business school?

He said that Furman, Wofford, and PC were all harder to get into than Clemson.

I just said that I have the second highest scholorship at PC, (in the running for the highest), and am not expecting money from Clemson. I believe this shows that Clemson's standards are higher.

I do believe Clemson should put more weight on ECs, etc...

In order of hardest to get into to easiest to get into
1. Furman
2. Clemson
3. Wofford
4. PC

The "he" that I'm agreeing with in terms of Furman being overall harder to get into than Clemson was not the user who posted post #85.

With that said, I've never really considered admission into PC vs. admission into Clemson, since I've never considered applying to PC--while I have not really heard many of my classmates (or people from previous graduating classes) discuss PC. I don't know very much about PC beyond that it is not as selective admissions-wise as Furman.

On the other hand, as of right now I don't think that Clemson has notified everyone of merit scholarships yet--though I could easily be proven wrong about this within the next several weeks. Also, not expecting money from Clemson doesn't necessarily mean you won't get any.

So while it's possible that Clemson has "higher standards" than PC, I don't think comparing those two schools can really help in comparing Clemson and Furman.

"I just said that I have the second highest scholorship at PC, (in the running for the highest), and am not expecting money from Clemson. I believe this shows that Clemson's standards are higher."

No that does not show anything at all. Simply put - PC, Wofford, Furman are private schools with much more endowment money to give out. Clemson is a public school with a lot less money to give out.

It all comes down to the josh user.

He got denied from Clemson. Yet accepted to Furman.
Obviously...Clemson has higher standards. Case settled.

Lol actually that's not true, I know several ppl from my school who got into the Bridge Program with stats of 1200+ and 4.0+ weighted gpa's but also know a girl who got in with a low 3.0 weighted gpa and a 1050 SAT, her parents just happen to be Heisman Donors. Atleast we can say one thing about Furman, it's more honorable than Clemson from those standards.
