hey what??, can you find out if your friends are just screwing with you? i would have a heart attack if they got their decisions already…

columbia’s “general studies” is kind of rolling admission, and a lot of people from gs already have their decisions. it is my understanding for columbia college the decisions are all at once around may 15th.

Southerncali, my friends and I did not apply to GS, for we are all ‘traditional’ students.

Dirty.chicago, I was shocked when they first told me. Thus, for the past few weeks, I have been incessantly calling my parents to check the mail-box and frantically checking my email. Maybe they are screwing around with me. But on the flip-side, why would they lie about it? I do not think they would lie to me about it, for most of them (6 people - including myself) are currently attending top-30 universities. As of now, I hope they are lying to me…
Anyhow, I am just going to ignore them and wait for the decision to come out, for I have finals to worry about.

By the way, I have a question regarding Columbia’s financial aid. Given that I am a NY resident, how much will I get if my parents earn around 190-220K per year?

I know I am jumping ahead but finaid is a decisive factor for me. The only reason why I applied for the transfer admission to Columbia is because of my current school’s fin-aid package. Besides the fin-aid situation and overwhelming number of pre-meds, I like my current school and have no problem staying here in Baltimore for three more painstaking years.

Your parents’ income is pretty high, I’d be surprised if you got any aid… perhaps some student loans, if you can demonstrate need. Are you planning on living on-campus or off?

HAHAH SAL I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. Also, I never responded to your text but it seems apt to post it here on DA NET:

Yes, it would be incredible if we both got into Columbia. You are a shoo-in, by the way.

Actually, SexyKoreanGirl, Columbia’s undergrad population is about twice the size of Middlebury’s, but the main thing I was referring to in terms of “bigger” campus is the variety of academic programs that aren’t limited to the normal liberal arts fare…

I am in dire need of aid right now because my parents are having a hard time maintaining their business due to the current financial crisis. As for housing, I want to commute but I heard that an individual has to live on-campus for at least one year before he/she can commute.

Frui: Where can you see if your application is still “under review” I check every part of application tracking and I can´t see it!!! does somebody knows?

I was talking about the Cornell website when I said it said “under review”, not Columbia

hey what??

your frds were trying to distract your attention on reviewing for the finals lol. dont screw it up haha.

i second gobacktoschool2005

How are we supposed to get our decisions/

By mail definitely, and some people suggest we’ll get it through the app tracking website but I don’t know if that’s definite.

Just found this on the 2008 Columbia Transfer thread. One of the posters received this email from the admissions office:

"Thank you for your application to Columbia University. We are nearing the end of our application review process and will soon notify students of our admissions decisions.

You can receive your admission decision online. We plan to post all admissions decisions here on Thursday, May 15, 2008, after 5:00pm (Eastern Time).

We are also mailing admissions decisions on Thursday, May 15, 2008, so you will receive an official decision letter by mail as well."

So, if the trend continues, looks like that’s what we can expect!

yep, thats what they say in email for this year. agghhhh i’m gunna rip my hair out in anticipation…

now you see May.5 isnt the magic date…

Wait, dirty.chicago, you received an email like that for this year already??

I hope the results turnout well, cornell is just butchering people, columbia might be worse but am keeping my fingers crossed. cant believe its so close. does anyone think they have made any decisions yet?

I didn’t receive any email saying that it’ll be on the 15th. Did you guys all receive that email?
