Fall 2011 Acceptances

Seriously I keep checking this forum like crazy.

make sure you do not fall asleep before they call …

I’m so jealous, one of my friends on FB just posted “Looks like I’m going to UCSD!”.

Don’t freak out about not getting a call. My son did not receive a call last year and he was accepted as a Regents Scholar… Hang in there. The wait it almost over. Good luck. :-)

I agree with momfirst3…this all I ploy to make you really want to go to UCSD. They wait for UCLA to smash or hopes and then they drag it out. By the end of the week we will all think UCSD is the best place in the world.

By the way I think I have a pretty good chance to get into UCSD because I got invited to apply to the Medical scholars program and I have not gotten a call and I live in San Diego

momfirst3: Your post really gave us a sense of relief; thank you! My D is waiting patiently for an answer from UCSD. This phoning business is almost cruel, I think, as it does tend to put everyone unnecessarily on edge. But like 33dmjjm wrote, it may all be a ploy. Who knows. I just wish they’d give a specific date for acceptances/rejections like some of the other UC’s have done.

Momfirst3: What exactly is a Regents Scholar? Did they let him know he qualified as such in the weeks/days before he was accepted? (Does he enjoy UCSD?)

Thank you all, and good luck to everyone!

Oh my, I totally remember being in your place last year. The child I am referring to is actually my youngest so I have been through this three times!! I’m glad I eased your mind a bit… Actually my son got into UCLA, UCSD and Cal. Although he was a Regents Scholar at UCSD, he ended up deciding on Cal. He started this year as an Undeclared Engineering major. This was not an easy decision for him because he was also an athlete and was recruited at UCSD. He just liked the environment at Berkeley the best and he couldn’t pass up the #3 engineering school in the country.

A Regents Scholar is a designation given to a certain amount of top students who apply each year. I think my son heard right after acceptance decisions came out. He got a folder with all this important stuff in it. It’s a small scholarship amount as well as a guarantee that they will meet any additional financial need each year. You get other perks such as guaranteed housing, priority registration, etc. Each campus has a different criteria for this award. Even with a 4.73 GPA, class rank #1, 34 ACT, etc. he did not get it at UCLA or Cal. Crazy…

UCSD is an excellent school. My son has friends who go there and love it. I hope she gets in and I’m sure she will love it. Hang in there, mom!

Momfirst3: Wow, I can’t imagine going through this process three times! I only have the one so this is a one-time experience for me (thank God). Congrats on your son attending Cal! However, I’m a little confused…you mention later that he didn’t get into Cal or UCLA (perhaps a different son?)? My D was also a recent UCLA-reject (4.1 GPA, 33 ACT, 2150 SAT), but also a biomedical engineering hopeful which I now understand may have had something to do with it…(impacted?). Hoping madly for UCSD! Thanks again for your moral support, Momfirst3!

No, he got into Cal and UCLA. He wasn’t a Regents Scholar at either. Undeclared Engineering is one of the most competitive engineering majors at Cal (EECS is the other one). I guess he was average for that. hahaha… I’m happy to lend moral support. I remember how tough it was and I’m glad I’m past it. Let me know if you have any questions.

Ooops…my mistake, Momfirst3. I misread what you had written. I see now you meant he didn’t get the regents scholar at UCLA or Cal…sorry about that!

Woow
The views on this thread tripled literally within 48 hours

If I get in UCSD, and be accepted to my desired college and major, I will be soooo happy. This wait is draining me.

“If I get in UCSD, and be accepted to my desired college and major, I will be soooo happy. This wait is draining me.”

totalllly agree!

I am still waiting, are they still calling …
if UCSD kick me in the groin like UCLA, then I have to decide between UCI and UCSB …

Not that deciding from two other excellent UCs would be a bad thing ;)

That kick from UCLA is a pretty rough one isn’t it? And UCI and UCSB are both great schools :)

@leakers

you act like that’s a chore. I’d be less stressed if I got accepted into Irvine already :</p>

I would have to make that same choice, but I’m a prospective Physics major, so UCSB is an especially good option.

So would anyone like to tell me why UCSD’s waiting for acceptance forum is more crowded than UCI’s? Is it because UCI is all OC kids’ safety net? Or because it’s ranking/reputation isn’t as impressive as UCSD’s? BTW, still waiting for both.

@rainsonata i am still waiting for both tooo
:(

do you know when the last day UCI will send out their acceptances?

@toosie: UCI claims, like every year, that the last day it sends stuff is March 31. But according to Ms. Sun, it’s on March 23. My parents gave me funny looks when I requested for restocking on Kleenex.
