Fall 2011 Admission Decisions

took me 6 days. i did a lot of hw regarding this and found the average to be a week or so

Thank you so much RandomAdmit and phillyman123!
Even the though the application process was very long and tedious, the before/during interview was stressful, it is the wait that is definitely the worse part!

You can find your UNI in the directory, sometimes before getting your storybook invite. They don’t email or mail you the UNI, you have to look it up in the directory yourself and sign up for your cubmail account.

I haven’t received a decision yet and I tried logging in to the Financial Aid system (the same way I’m able to track my application) and I can’t get through. Does that mean that I’m rejected!? Oh goodness. I didn’t need this stress today. SIGH

@moonandstars,
I did the same and I can’t log in either! that just kills me!

I honestly don’t think it means anything but I can’t prevent myself from being pessimistic…

I know what you mean. I was so confident in the beginning but I’ve become so pessimistic now that it is taking so long.

Yeah I don’t know why it takes so long for you…

I’m also an international student but I submitted my application around the 1st of June (well I applied to the dual degree program the 1st of January, got rejected so I just had to submit a new essay and that was it).

Anyway the deadline for them is July 15th. So we will have to know soon anyway… I’m just hoping to know by this week, or tomorrow… that would be great if we could know tomorrow :-p

Are you already in the US? with a student visa btw?

Yea, I already have an F1 visa. If I get accepted I
I’ll be a transfer student. I hope we hear something by tomorrow as well. My completed application was submitted kind of late and they couldn’t find some documents even after I submitted them…so I guess that’s why it is taking so long to get a decision. I’m just so nervous/anxious.

If they wanted to reject us they wouldn’t have waited for so long to let us know, which means we kinda have a chance.

I don’t know how it’s gonna happen for us knowing that we are international students… generally universities want a a lot more paperwork before officially accepting non-US students… I’m wondering if they are asking themselves that question: Will they be able to give us everything we need (for the I20, financial docs, etc…) on time to register/start?

For paying the tuition I will have to take a loan. Have you search for private leans that would cover such an amount (~50k/year)?

I would wait to talk with Skip before applying for any private loans.

I am just awaiting my award letter. Once I receive it, I will be able to plan accordingly.

Yeah, I would wait until I get accepted, then see what kind of award I receive, then talk to Skip. As for the I-20 issue, it doesn’t take schools long at all to issue those to international students. What takes time is trying to get a student visa. Schools usually prefer if students apply for the visa about 3 months in advance (but, of course, you can’t apply for a student visa unless you have an I-20). Don’t be discouraged, though. My current college advises students to go for the student visa ASAP…but everything worked out for me at the very last minute. Also, from what I’ve read, there are specific kinds of aid/loans for international student. But let’s wait to see if we get accepted before we worry about anything else.

I’d rather start thinking about private loans just because no matter if I’m accepted to Columbia GS or not I will have to pay for my university tuition fees. As an international students I have to pay out-of-state tuition no matter what, and scholarships are far from covering everything in my situation…

Of course I’d rather spend a fortune in Columbia rather than 10-15K less in a mediocre university ^^

I agree. Good luck to you again. I’m hoping we get our decisions this week.

For those of you attending Columbia this fall, here’s a little school pride:

[YouTube - ‪Columbia University Fight Song: Roar, Lion, Roar!‬‏](<a href=“Columbia University Fight Song: Roar, Lion, Roar! - YouTube”>Columbia University Fight Song: Roar, Lion, Roar! - YouTube)

Learn this song, because we sing it at our sporting events.

My boyfriends now hates me 'cause that song is stuck in his head… ha ha!
Thanks for the link! I hope I’ll get the chance to sing it soon!

In the meantime, I’m still waiting…

@moonandstars: good luck too! :-)

Got my decision today. I’m in!
And following this offer of admission today, my current university has made me an offer I can’t refuse to prevent me from transfering to Columbia. I seriously don’t know what to do and my admission offer might eventually fall in the hands of someone on the waitlist.

For all those who can’t sleep at night, I’ve submitted my application on April 1st and got my answer now so don’t lose faith, time means nothing!

Congratulations to those who git it! Just got an email from admissions office saying… I’m in!!! Sucks still have summer school… And test tomorrow… Otherwise celebrate drink tonight… But good luck to those who are still waiting, I waited almost three months to get an reply… So… Be patient :)

eiffel75, just out of curiousity, what did your current school offer you? And what is your current school?
