Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

@Maomix, thanks for the tip! Looks like I’ll be one of those last, waiting for a decision. The anticipation is killing me!

For those who are waiting still, when did Michigan receive all of your application materials?

15th March! But they only marked it as complete about a week ago.

I’m still waiting too; they received my mid-term grade report on 3/21 so I’m a bit nervous. I don’t know, it just seems odd to ask for it then deny me after I get a 4.0 this semester, so I’ll just have to wait it out a couple more days and hope for the best. I feel like it would’ve been pointless to ask for it if that’s the case. All this is killing me!

@UMDTransfer91 i’m in a similar case as you. Idk how your initial grades were, but mine weren’t that impressive, but they asked for my mid term report and I have a 3.89 right now. If they were borderline before, our current GPAs should push us over the edge, right?
Harzan, they received all of my materials 2/1 but how do you know when they marked it as complete? 4-6 weeks they said lol…its been 10 weeks and I’m still waiting.

Hi, new to this but I was wondering, do they update WA with your decision 24/7 or just during the 8-5 workday?

@RelSparty My app was marked as complete 2/13. Also, your application may be going through an appeal process. If half the people want you in and the other half say no then it may be going to the board and they make the decision. I was talking to my friend over this weekend because I was concerned it was taking so long and he kind of explained that process to me.

Everyone else, did you guy get asked for a mid-term reports? Or did you send them in? I don’t recall them being required.

According to the other posts on this thread, it looks like they only want your mid term report if you’re borderline and they need something else to base your decision off of, not everyone needs one.
Maomix, what do you know about the appeals process? Would you say I have a good chance since my mid term grades were good, and I have a GPA of 3.89 for the semester?

@RelSparty Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, at least it seems like that would make sense. Mine weren’t great either so I’m hoping they put more consideration into midterms and work experience throughout the last few years. I guess if we don’t make the cut we can still petition the decision but I’m sure it’s rare that they change their minds.

@RelSparty, I honestly don’t know that much about it other than what I told you. My friend is the one who knows because when we were waiting for our decisions together last year (We were applying as freshmen) he became an expert. [How We Evaluate Your Application | University of Michigan Office of Admissions](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/drupal/how-we-evaluate-your-application) This is from the website and goes into detail about the application review process. I’ll ask him for you and update you about it in his words.

I’m so nervous about not being asked for a mid-term report. I had a pretty solid GPA applying (3.87 from university, 4.0 from CC) but my GPA from high school was questionable (3.4). But I only had 20 credits, So I figured they would need more information. At least I worked 32 hrs per week so I hope that contributes well to my application.

What my friend said about the review process:

So your application is reviewed by two people initially. If both say yes, you’re in. If both say no, you’re out. If the decision is split, then you are sent up to a higher level person who can make the tie-breaking vote, or if they think it’s too close they can send it to a review committee to decide.

^^When I phoned the office they told me that my application was still being reviewed. The lady on the phone did tell me the name and contact info of the person she said was “making the final decision” on my application.

Would that be the tie-breaking vote you’re referring to?

Maomix, your grades have been solid throughout, so you’re looking good. I have to be honest though, I’m not feeling too confident after learning about the selection process though. I’m glad I made it this far, and I’m hoping that’s a good sign for all of us. At least I didn’t get rejected outright. Is this wait driving anyone else crazy??

@RelSparty Yeah, but compared to a lot of other applicants I feel like I don’t stand a chance. Plus, I’m so early on in college and didn’t do so well in High School, so I think they may weigh that more. Also, I didn’t get my final decision of being rejected until Mid-April last year so I’m afraid it’ll just be a replay of that.

If I don’t get into Michigan I think I’m going to lose all hope (I applied to Georgetown and Vanderbilt too). Part of me hopes I don’t find out I got rejected until after my G-Town interview Saturday, but part of me wants to know NOW. Like I got Inbox (1) as the professor that wrote me a letter of rec walked past me today and I almost had a heart attack. Turned out it was just Urban Outfitters :(

@wwwwwhs I’m not sure. It very well could be. That’s weird that they gave you the specific person’s contact info. When was your app marked as complete. Mine was 2/13; that’s prob why I’m freaking out som much.

@maomix, do you mean when they received all the materials? It was 03/01 for me. Bc I’m an international applicant they apparently have specific people who take care of application from certain countries. The lady on the phone told me to directly contact that person if I don’t get a decision by the 15th. So i’m assuming they’re gonna let everyone know by then?

@wwwwwhs Oh, okay that makes sense. I have no idea what the process is like, if it’s any different, for international students. I was looking a few pages back and someone said something about hearing back in June now? Idk what that’s about. I’m hoping we all get our decisions by then. Part of me is just kind of worried they may have forgotten about my application/lost it/something else awful that could go wrong.

@RelSparty, yeah I didn’t know either, my girlfriend gave the office a call and told us that. I don’t know whether there’s any way of knowing via WA.

And yeah, maomix is right. I had my application withdrawn initially because I couldn’t hand in my fall transcript until late February, but I sent an appeal and they said they’d attach it to my file. Hopefully, we’ll all get accepted :D

Has anyone who has gotten in recieved a FA package yet? Wondering how long it takes…been waiting for 2 weeks

Does anyone know if this Monday, April 15 is the absolute final deadline for decisions?

I have no idea, I would be thrilled if that was the case though, this wait is brutal.
Would you guys mind chancing me?
Currently a sophomore at MSU, after this semester I will have completed 56 credits along with 15 AP credits and I currently have a lower GPA here 3.2. It has shown upward trend, and so far this year I have all 4.0s and one 3.5. I explained my poor grades to them on my common app.
High School Stats
GPA- 3.4
ACT- 29
Varsity Athletics, Leadership extracurriculars
I applied right before the Feb deadline, and got on email on Monday that they wanted a mid term report from my professors. I assumed this to be a good thing because my application was still in contention, and I have drastically improved my grades this semester. They received my form on Wednesday according to Wolverine Access.

@RelSparty They said early April so I would assume the 15th is the last day. I called on Wednesday and they also said within a week.

If anyone chances RelSparty would you mind chancing me?

EDIT: I’m applying to LSA
