Ok I’ve got two questions!
First:
When do Fall Transfer applicants usually receive notification of their admission decision? I know the website says at the latest in June but I was hoping to hear before then!
Second: Chance Me? (For McCombs, hopeful accounting major - looking at MPA program)
Past College: Southern Methodist University
In both University Honors Program and BBA Cox Scholars Program and MSA (Masters of Science in Accounting) Direct Program
Fall 2014 Classes:
Intro to Spanish (first two semesters combined course)
Discourse and Discernment (Honors english/humanities course)
Information Technology Office Management - Honors Intro Statistic Course taught entirely on excel vs. traditional paper taught statistics
BBA Scholars Business Seminar
Personal Responsibility and Wellness (required SMU freshman course, basically your high school health course)
Microeconomics
Fall 2014 GPA: 3.75
I’m not taking courses this semester (Spring 2015) — It would’ve resulted in me having Junior hours and, from what I have gathered, almost made me ineligible to transfer
High School Academics:
Graduated 5th in my class out of 565
Weighted GPA: 4.7/4.0
Unweighted: 3.8/4.0
Extra-Curriculars:
At SMU:
Relay for Life, Teams Committee
Residential Commons Council
SMU Episcopal
SMU YoungLife
High School:
Student Council Member, Energy and Environment Committee Head
Senior Council VP
NEHS Historian, Member
NHS Member
Alpha Beta Member
Church Youth Group
Local Hospital Volunteer
Project Linus Regular Volunteer
I’m applying with two recommendation letters from high school teachers.
@18erSMU make sure you have some other schools lined up. It is hard to tell from what you have listed if you have completed the required courses for McCombs transfers: I see Micro. You also need Macroeconomics and two semesters of Calculus. (Maybe AP or dual credits?)
You may want to check with admissions if they count AP or Dual credits from high school in the required 30 hours needed to transfer. As I thought the 30 hours had to all be at your current school. Showing completion on a transcript of these 30 hours is what holds up the admission process into June. They want to see grades for all 30+ hours at your University of residence. I may be wrong on this - and for your sake I hope I am.
And lastly, the stat for external transfers in 2014 - the average GPA was a 3.89. 91 Texas residents accepted from 563 applications.
You have great stats. Your high school record was stellar. But once you have been in college for a year, UT doesn’t care about your high school stats.
Why do you want to transfer out of SMU Cox School of Business?
From what I understand, the 30 hours of transferable coursework does not have to have been completed at one university. I entered college with 36 hours (dual credit and AP) and after completing last semester at SMU I have 52.
I took both AB and BC Calculus in high school scoring 5’s on both exams. I also took macro in high school also scoring a 5 on that exam. Therefore, I have completed the business indicator courses.
Although the Cox School of Business and SMU are wonderful especially when you include the honors programs I am in, the school was not the right fit for me and I was very unhappy.
Excellent! I think that makes you exactly the type of transfer candidate they accept - those that would have been accepted as freshmen had they applied. And those coming from solid programs.
And since you have above and beyond the 30 required hours, I would think you may hear earlier than applicants that have those hours in progress.
I am mostly familiar with the internal transfer process, so maybe someone else familiar with external transfer process can add insight.
Good luck and let us know when you get results! A lot of transfer candidates never return to CC to report back, and it would be helpful to know how they fared and how they adjusted to UT.
